Ordered my 3 LR, Red, White interior, 18", No FSD on May 21st.
EDD1 : 9/4-10/14

Yesterday at 5pm I received a text to schedule my delivery this week.

I have a VIN (295XXX), but I wonder if that's a car that was refuted by someone. I texted my SA about it: no response yet.

Where do I look to find out the production date based on my VIN?

Thank you!
You’ll have to ask the SA for production date. But that’s a current VIN based on what people are getting.

Maybe cancelled order last minute or someone couldn’t get financing. That configuration isn’t very common so perhaps you were just the next in line in your area with that exact config.

Common terms

SA = Service Advisor. This is your contact with Tesla until you've taken delivery of your vehicle.
EDD = Estimated Delivery Date. It is important to understand that this is only an approximation, not a exact prediction.
FSD = Full Self Driving. This is an optional feature of the vehicle.
VIN = Vehicle Identification Number. This is a unique identification number found on all Tesla vehicles.

Ordering FAQ

1. You have an SA, even if you ordered online. Just reply to the text you got when you ordered (Welcome to the Tesla family....).
2. SAs exist to help with the order and delivery process. They won't tell you anything more than you can learn from the Tesla app.
3. Your first EDD is likely the most accurate. Frequent updates or a lack of updates are no indication of progress on your order.
4. If you make it into an EDD without a VIN, you'll get a new EDD on the second day of the current EDD.
5. EDDs occasionally jump out by months. These are glitches that usually correct within a week.
6. VINs can come at any time. EDDs are refreshed twice a day (but yours may not change for long periods of time).
7. A text asking about a trade-in of your current vehicle is not indicative of progress on your order.
8. Expect to wait 100+ days for your car. There was a huge surge in order volume starting in March due to gas prices.
9. East coast deliveries happen in the first two months of a quarter. West coast happens in the last month of the quarter.
10. Occasionally, vehicles are delivered much earlier than expected because another person cancelled their order or refused the vehicle.
11. Orders with FSD do not currently receive priority.
12. There are two headlight types; premium and matrix. There is currently no guarantee as to which will be installed on any given vehicle.
13. Ryzen chips, double pane front glass, and lithium ion 12V batteries are standard on all vehicles.

It's definitely starting to look like the end of quarter delivery frenzy. To everyone who has recently received their Tesla, congratulations, and welcome to the future. To everyone who will receive their Tesla shortly, congratulations, the future is just around the corner. To those of you waiting, never fear, it may not feel like it, but the future is coming at you faster than you might think.

Found what might be something I want addressed on the car but not sure. The rear tail lights protrude slightly out from rear hatch. Like there is a gap between body and the taillight housing. Seems like this could be problematic if it rains, car is washed etc. Not sure if the photo is clear but wondering if this is 'normal' or a gap that I should have Service address. Maybe reseat the taillight?

For you new owners, make sure (if you have pets) to check out dog mode. It's a very underrated feature of these cars that and ICE car cannot do. It's almost 100 degrees here in Chicago and turning on dog mode, I can keep my cabin at 67 degrees while I run into the store.

Very overlooked great feature.
I am scared to put my dogs in it just yet. Its not even barely a day old. Couldnt imagine them scratching/puncturing the seats only after having it one day lol

What do you mean by a 'VIN not close to what's going on'? Are you saying a VIN range much lower than what we're actively seeing most people get? If so, what is the current ranges typically seen? I'm a 297xxx.
So in our case the VIN was a one that was typically "older" than what was being delivered around my area.

It was declined by someone and we moved "up in line"....

There are a ton of reasons why a VIN would be rejected…. the original intended recipeient could have just changed their mind, or were unavailable during the delivery windows… or they just couldn’t come up with the funds on time, or a number of other instances that have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the car. But I can see where you may be concerned…. There could have been something actually wrong with the car, and someone rejected it because of that flaw… or it was delivered broken and it just took a while for the SC to fix it. I wouldn’t straight up reject a car because the vin is a lower number than others in the same time window… but I’d definitely take a closer look at things to make sure its all good to go.

Picked up yesterday afternoon, so happy!! Only one small issue with the frame (see attached pic). Other than that the Car is great! I live in Vegas and it was over 100 yesterday so it was hot. Getting tinted today.

Beautiful! Giving me hope to hear others in Vegas are getting their VINs now. Especially since my EDD took a nasty hit this morning.

Exactly!

We did not reject the car we were presented with whatsoever. I would NEVER reject a car simply based on a VIN. BUT, I would pay attention to my experience and that of others when the VIN is not in the usual cycle from what is coming to a delivery area.

Just a suggestion....be prepared when getting "ahead of the line" and pay close attention to the car you are looking to get.

In our case, this was pretty obvious....just look at the pics from the post I sent.

Just OUR experience on what we were presented.

I wouldn't worry about the gap as other than a cosmetic issue. Every Tesla is going to have a gap there, and rain will absolutely get in. Even if the tail light was hanging off the car you wouldn't have any problems with it (apart from the banging sound as you drive around). The unit is sealed, all wiring is insulated, and all metal surfaces are treated.

That said, there's no harm in going to Tesla to ask them if they can reseat the tail light, even if it's for cosmetic reasons. It's an expensive car. It should have a certain level of fit and finish to it.
