well, VIN assigned. No email, no text. Just randomly opened the app and there it is. With an EDD while I'm on vacation in Europe 🤦🏻 not sure what I can do at this point
Sell me your reservation. Kidding. That's a bummer man. I would honestly fly back, sign paperwork, and then return to Europe for vacation. Unless you can hire someone and grant power of attorney to take delivery?

Bottomline, we are many many years away from an FSD system which can drive, in every location on the planet, better than an average driver who is familiar with that location. But that shouldnt mean the system does not work well.
As a long time software engineer, I bet we could have a great discussion about this. I'm sure it would be lengthy as we're both sensitive to the nuances of meaning. Therefore I'll refrain from trying to pursue the topic any further in this thread :)

LOL. Absolutely. It will be a very lengthy conversation as a software engineer's aim is to get the code to work 100% of the times, while a machine learning engineer's aim is to get their model to predict correctly 95% of the times. :)

So moderators are welcome to remove this if it's in the wrong room. Just want a change of topic to keep things lively here.

I guess I always had an idea in my head of the "average" EV owner before I started researching Tesla. I imagined most were (don't be triggered) mostly left-wing climate change warriors. Don't get me wrong, I love it here on earth as much as the next guy. I just have to admit, my main reason for ordering this car was much more... selfish.. if you will. I was driving a full sized Ford pickup truck roughly 500 miles a week. It was a small fortune before the Ukraine fiasco to keep gas in the truck... not to mention the bank note. And that's with what I feel very blessed to consider a moderately high salary for where I live. Gas money started to feel equivalent to renting an apartment- keep throwing money away with nothing to show for it. Based on my calculations I'll have the same out of pocket expense driving the Tesla until gas drops below $2.79/Gallon. Then comes the "cool factor." There's no denying that these cars are unrivaled. Not just among EVs, but virtually unrivaled period. Unless you're willing to spend 6 figures on a super car, and make it your daily, nothing else comes close.

All this to say- I'm curious to know why you guys chose Tesla? I think a poll with a few options would be really interesting. I'm also curious how many of the folks in this thread are repeat Tesla customers? Are we all virgins here? If not... how long did you keep your first Tesla?

Last thought and I promise I'm done here... is anyone else concerned that after finally pulling the trigger, and then waiting months to get the car, that Tesla will offer something SOOO MUCH BETTER that your car will seem obsolete (and value will drop through the floor overnight)? What if they release a new battery with 50%faster charge times and 75% more range in November? What if a surprise pickup truck is announced to start production Jan '23? What if the Model 3 gets falcon wing doors? I guess you get the point by now..... Will we feel like assholes?
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I work in clean energy and cleantech and I've been passionate about it since I was a young man. I bought and support EVs because they are the future. They have what cleantech has always promised - that we CAN have it all. We can overcome the challenges of climate change without compromising our lifestyles. We do not have to live in a hut and eat crickets. We can drive EVs and own electrified homes and grow meat in labs or be vegan....etc. I support every EV on the market because they all make a difference for the owner and their community. They are better cars in every way. This is how horse riders felt when they first got cars - a total revolution in transportation. You KNOW things will be better.

Quick question for people who have frequented this forum in past:
Do vin numbers get assigned in batches or are they assigned daily, in varying quantity. Asking if we should be expecting a drought in VINs in the upcoming days, or will there be steady assignment of VINs?
There is a lot of that info in the spreadsheet.
