I got a Varta to replace the Bosch which did throw compatibility warnings. The Varta has been fine so far.

Based on your previous posts:
  • It would appear the battery has been installed since 19 Mar 2024?
  • You have not been able to change the battery type and it is still configured as an ATLASBX?
  • Your vehicle is a 2019 - late or early?
Was the original battery you replaced an ATLASBX?

I'm really interested in the Varta Blue as I have the 12v battery warning and even though the battery's internal resistance is still very good I think given it is nearly 5 years old it should probably be replaced. Tesla have quoted a £300 delivery charge in addition to the £102.12 for the ATLASBX because I am in the Isle of Man - I am therefore keen to source an alternative!

Even if you did not have a warning, at 5 years old, I would replace as a precaution. You will have to do it at some point so might as well be at the point of your choosing not when stranded somewhere in the middle of the night unable to even get into your car.

I honestly can't remember... But you're right that i wasn't able to change battery config. We picked our car up sep 30th 2019. Not sure if that makes it late or early
I've ordered a Varta Blue B32 (158/053) from Tanya Batteries for £72.29 including delivery to the Isle of Man. I would strongly have preferred to fit the stock Tesla battery but for a possible saving of £328 I think it's worth the punt.

Thanks for the replies to my questions - much appreciated.

I had a warning come up yesterday and I had already started a 100 mile trip so took the chance it wouldn't fail completely on me and carried on.
The battery voltage was 12.6V at the start and end of the trip so I wasn't too concerned.
Thought long and hard about buying a cheaper battery online but this is such a critical component and I got plenty of warning this time, so I don't want to risk it if and when it happens again. I'm going to pick one up from my local SC for £149 and fit it myself.

I've had a few bad experiences with replacement 12V batteries in ICE cars in the past. It's one of those things that can become a real hassle to sort out and can let you down at the worst possible time, so in this case I'm going to play it safe!

Are there any other places to get a new OEM battery for cheaper?
I've done some searching today and couldn't find anywhere stocking the identical batteries Tesla list in the service menu.
My concern is that if a battery other than one listed is fitted, the built-in diagnostics won't work as well which then could lead to the battery failing before the system diagnoses a fault.
If someone has fitted a battery other than the Tesla recommended ones, it would be interesting to see what information is displayed in the service menu.
The diagnostics measure voltage, internal resistance and other parameters which could help to give an early warning and plenty of time to replace the battery.
