MR Waiting Room

Question: I originally placed my order for a MR 15 days ago, and upgraded to LR this Monday. The system had matched me to a 2018 car and generated a sales contract for me to E-sign at the website that referenced the 2018 car (and its lower price). I didn't sign, because I'm obviously waiting for the LR in a 2019, but that contract for the old car is STILL there. They keep saying it's not preventing me from being matched to a new car, and that when one is assigned it will automatically overwrite the old contract with a new one, but I have my doubts. Does anyone here have any experience with this or something similar? I really feel like the presence of that contract is somehow proof that the system is assuming I'm locked into that old car, and that's why I'm not being assigned a new (correctly configured) one. Anyone know about this? Thanks!

I am not sure if having the old VIN there would prevent from new match, but had the exact same situation and I was not feeling comfortable. It even showed the pick up appointment for me, which should have been removed too. I called the owner advisor and delivery rep and asked them to remove the old VIN and appointment from my account. They agreed and it was removed in couple of hours.

So if you choose LR, you pay the extra cost for upgrade or they give some config LR for free?

Yea. Pay $3k more for LR or take $3k off for SR+.

I asked if they were able to do anything to offset the increase to LR since I didn’t want to give up the premium interior. He said they aren’t offering anything at this time. Told him I had to think about. It was a pretty dry/cold interaction.

I am frustrated. Tesla makes a great car but they aren’t so great at the business stuff.

Price just went up today. $1500 more for LR RWD.

I would be upset, especially offering this late. My guess is your location. They likely can’t get you the car by month end and probably don’t care if you buy or not. I also feel they decided to wait to tell people in hopes of finding 2018 matches, customer buying a different version or color, combo. Now when stock is pretty much done and quarter is ending, they trying to take care of sales for those they can get cars too.

I can see the no discounts now because of the price increases today. If you go to LR save $1500 ($3000 vs $4500). If you go SR+ save $500 (-3000 vs -2500). The problem is that everyone who ordered an MR should have been called yesterday and have all discounts the same amount for a new LR.

That is part of the frustration. With prices now having increased they have more leverage.

“Well you can cancel your order and we can refund you. Prices have gone up so later if you change your mind it will cost you more to place a new order.”

When I rejected my MR and was looking a replacement, I had brought up the price increase. The delivery manager said that since I had placed my order prior to the price increase, that the original lower pricing was locked in for me and would apply towards a future purchase if I changed vehicles. You should hold them to the old price, especially since you are being forced to make a change as they no longer carry the MR.

Given that the LR costs $1500 more now, I would just upgrade and get more bang for your buck. The value of your vehicle will $1500 higher than what you paid right off the bat.

FWIW, my Tesla account order page has been updated with the LR configuration, but it's not providing any details on discounts, so the price is shown as $54,000 (vs. $51,000 as I'd configured my MR order). The page does note that the price "excludes tax, registration, discounts and fees," so this isn't necessarily an error, but the fact that I see no mention anywhere in writing of the $3,000 in discounts I was promised has me a bit nervous. I've e-mailed my sales associate at the Dedham, MA store where I took a test drive to see if I can get something in writing (or at least in an e-mail).

Everything takes "24-48 Hours". I had the same issue with the price not updating to reflect discounts. My salesman didn't input the changes and then took a 6 day vacation. Nobody at the store could do it because he was assigned to it. Once he returned he input the changes and told me it would take 24-48 hours. After that, it took 24-48 hours to get the contract written. Finally I have paid in full and taking delivery Saturday. Some of this delay is because of the stupid laws in Texas, but that can't be the only excuse they have. This process is not easier, nor less stressful, than a traditional dealership as they would like everyone to believe.

So after a long conversation, the only thing they can discount is paint and wheels. Asked about getting a wall connector or increasing my trade-in or anything else really. Said the only thing they are allowed to comp is paint and wheels. Can’t touch battery, AP/FSD, or white interior.

So that is good news for the people who want a color other than black and/or wanted the 19” rims.

Glad everything worked out! They hosed me on the wheels, she said paint OR wheels. So I went with aero.

FWIW I placed an order for an inventory LEMR black/black/aero/AP (located at the gigafactory when I ordered it) on Sunday night 3/17, and I received an appointment for delivery here in CO Tuesday 3/26. I expected it to move pretty fast since the car was already built, but it moved even quicker than I expected. I received the VIN and details in my account this morning, and everything lines up as expected. It's a Fremont manufactured car FWIW, so I'm not sure if it really is located at the gigafactory or not. I don't really care where it's coming from as long as it looks ok when it gets here.

Wanted to close the loop here. Picked up the car today, and it's great! Definitely a 2018 which is fine by me. The condition was definitely acceptable, and they did a good job of cleaning it. You can still tell it was super filthy recently though because there is some deep seated dirt in the tire tread blocks (only 19 miles on the car when I picked it up) and on some trim pieces that makes me think it was likely sitting outdoors during a couple storms. Panel gaps, interior, etc. were all totally fine and within reason, so unless I'm missing something obvious I feel like I had a great experience and got a good deal. Funny thing is I was a day 1 reservation holder which I canceled after waiting about 2 years, so it is kinda funny to take delivery 5 days shy of my 3 year anniversary for placing a deposit!

I have an order for MR pending since 4th March which does not show any VIN but have not been called yet to upgrade / downgrade. I have sent multiple emails and made phone calls, but my Owner Advisor and Delivery Specialist still maintains that I will get MR and dont need to change the order configuration. I am really confused because from what I have heard most of the people have been called to change their orders. Do we have anyone else who is still waiting for MR without a VIN assigned? I had earlier rejected a 2018 MR before it was discontinued, are they giving me a hard time for that?

I'd call the Nevada call center (enter zip 66604 and you'll be routed right there) and see if they can get you in touch with someone to upgrade. If not I can reach out to the guy who called me and ask if I can give away his #.

I ordered my MR on 3/16 and it was supposed to be delivered on 3/22. That got delayed until 3/28 and now has been delayed again to 3/30 and I fairly sure that will not actually happen as my Delivery Specialist has informed me that my car is still in California and I live in Indiana... I don't know why they even bother to provide delivery dates if they are not based on realistic logistics.

It's definitely looking like I will not be getting my MR by the end of the quarter. Still very excited about the car but the Tesla ordering/delivery experience has been seriously disappointing so far.
