bumping this thread with questions. undecided whether to give the SO my login or get her a Tesla account and have the delivery specialist add the car to her account. I have not seen screenshots of the app with a car assigned to it, so forgive the dumb questions.

When I login to my Tesla account online, it says, "Nathaniel's Tesla". Does the app do this too? If so, I assume if the other half has her own account, it would say, "Jane's Tesla" on her phone vs. "Nathaniel's Tesla" if she used my credentials.

Is it possible to see car location in the app? If so, does having separate accounts change this behavior? If not, I may have to take another car Christmas shopping!

thx
Both our cars are on the same account.
Very convenient.
I highly recommend it If your in a honest trusting relationship. (Probably not recommended for Donald & Melania)
Yes, we both have full visibility and access of each others whereabouts, Speed, cabin temperature...
We also both get notifications for both cars, Software updates,,, Also very useful when separated while Supercharging. We both get notified that charging is almost done...
Here’s how you switch between cars on the app.

Also, you do not have to use the same Tesla account -- if you prefer, you can have your SO establish their own Tesla account, and then you can write to servicehelpna and ask to have one or both VINs added to her account for app access to the car. Took about 15 days for us.

She will have full visibility and control; the only difference we can see is that she doesn't have a loot box.

Straying even further, @Daniellane, what's the multi-car behaviour with Calendar sync? Although we will soon have two Teslas, and would want both people to have both cars in teh app, we each will have a primary car and there's no sense in putting my calendar in her car, etc.

I agree, its a very good question. And the discussion on it should continue to get max info and idea.
But back to the question above. What happens if they get her phone, get in the car and are gone? Its a little late to worry about using the 3 UI to manage her virtual key then.

Here's the question that should also be asked, does the app require the password to be entered again to start the car?
Here's the scenario. The bad guy finds the phone laying next to the car, (or stole it from the car's owner without the owner's knowledge).
The phone is unlocked, so the bad guy opens the app. The owner did not sign out of the app, so the app opens. Now the bad guy can unlock the car and get inside. BUT, he can't start the car. Because when he selects Start, it prompts him for the account password.

Is this the same on the 3?
It really depends upon how you set up your phone with the app, with bluetooth enabled, it acts as key that unlocks and allows the car to be started, however in my phone I have bluetooth tuned off and use the app to unlock and then start the car, and yes like the model S, i am asked for the password.

So the level of security is based upon your personal preference, i opt for greater security rather than convenience.

There is a "switch to other car name" option at the top of the menu in settings but it needed to be activated by tesla support before we could see the menu option appear and then access the other car in our account.

Great question!
Unfortunately at this time calendar sync is not yet an option in the Model 3. My primary car is the model S and I only see my calendar on it.
But I’m not sure what the calendar sync settings are on my wife’s App - have to take a look.
Perhaps someone with a 2 car setup with only Ss & or Xs could shead some light on this.

Come to think of it...
As far as which calendars syncs. I’m sure it depends on which phone is connected via Bluetooth

Hmm. Interested in how that actually works -- there's no way it's going to sync over 8000 calendar events between the time I open the door and the time I sit down. Come to think of it, there's no way it's syncing 4500 contacts that quickly either.

Okay -- science; it works. Yes, in fact it does appear to be re-syncing every time.

I used the keycard to enter the car, and the phone menu contained no contacts, and told me to connect a phone.
I added a new contact to one of the paired phones, and then used it to enter the car. Recents was available as fast as I could touch the phone menu, but Contacts displayed a loading message and whirly for nearly 3 minutes, before presenting what appeared to be the full list, including the new contact. (This phone had 3041 contacts.)

It’s only 48 hrs. worth Basically today and tomorrow.
The idea is you don’t have to set the destination in FSD. It just knows where you need to be and takes you there based on your calendar events for the day accord to I read this somewhere in Tesla’s FSD marketing materials.
