The Tesla AP, EAP, FSD is not just a lane marker reader like most of the other manufacturer's lane keeping systems, it is much more. It currently usually only needs a lane marker to engage. It will drive for miles on unmarked roads after the markers disappear. Tesla's separately define driving surface, lanes, routes and all the objects on or near the roads.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did monitor things a few lanes over. On the screen of my 2020 M3, you can see cars a few lanes away, especially if they're larger cars. In any case, glad it worked out for you, Petermcg!
