If you have the wire already ran by an electrician to the HPWC location how difficult is the actual HPWC install? Is it something you can do yourself?

If this is something you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

Having said that, it is not difficult.

As long as you have enough wire to properly route the wires inside the wall connector, then yes, it's certainly something you can do yourself. I did it last week. My only issue was that the wires to my NEMA 14-50 weren't long enough to get to where I needed the wall connector so I had to pull new wire through conduit.

Edit: It's a lot of current if you forget to turn off that breaker... If you're not comfortable with that, it shouldn't be too much more to get an electrician to do it for you.

The dryer cord is only good for 30A. Get a stove cord.

I may have used "dryer" incorrectly - it's a 50-amp appliance cable. The 30-amp whips have much thinner cables.

It's a 50 amp circuit. So how do 40 and 32 amps translate into miles/hour? 40miles/hour vs 30 mile/hour charging speed?

The arithmetic works out that way if your Tesla has ~ 240 Wh/mile EPA rating and your charging setup is 240 volts.

It follows from
volts * amps = watts

It's not (having done 3 myself).

But, as I stated, if you have to ask you really shouldn't be doing it. Have you ever dealt with 240v?
