You're surprised anyone would have an answer to the OP's question, because all we know about are electric vehicles?

Or you're surprised anyone would give the OP the time of day with anything except for "This is a Tesla forum, why are you asking this here?"
 
All ICEs have a break-in period and procedure. 99.9% of people don’t follow it. The purpose is to get the (piston) rings set properly in the cylinders. Generally, for a set period of time (miles), you vary the throttle but cannot apply full throttle (or even close to it). Outboard (boat) motors have the same break-in requirements - and some brands are known for "making oil" when you fail to follow the procedure. Just google Yamaha Making Oil and read away.
