Now that Tesla has proven they're unafraid of wacky doors, I wonder if they'll go for gullwings or something else unique for the next-gen Roadster.
Ooooh... I like where you're going with that... if only I wasn't into convertibles...
I like it. I have a Roadster now and had no interest in the Model S. I was looking forward to the 4th generation car but the Model X in 2 years would work well for me. I think it looks pretty cool. Well done Tesla. But I am interested in seeing how the Model S deliveries go and how well Tesla scales up before I put a deposit.

So now I'm thinking if we get both S and X, should we downgrade the S to 40kwh and save up for 85kwh X?

That means that the base price of the X will be at least the 60kwh price of the S, to conform with the quotes that the pricing will be similar to S.
While an interesting idea, I'm not a fan. Steering wheel controls need to be tactile.
I'm guessing the steering wheel was borrowed from the Model S parts bin. It's completely new; clearly not borrowed from MB. Good news if that's so.

Interesting that, in the GigaOm video, Elon states that gullwings swing OUT and risk hitting another car, and then states that the hinged-in-the-middle falcon doors are better because they only swing out one foot from the car.
Elon, FYI: the DeLorean's gullwing doors also go mostly up and not out. In fact, they require...<drumroll please>...ONE FOOT of clearance away from the car.
Sorry, I know this doesn't matter to any of you and Elon isn't directly railing on the DeLorean, but since the DeLorean was the last (major) production car with gullwings and it's in my bones to correct common misconceptions about the DMC, I felt the need to vent/explain.

By having only four active areas per pad, I think our fingers won't get lost -- in contrast to the 17" console, where you'll have to look to operate it.
@ryanjm: Tesla's challenge was adapting the gull-wing to a much taller vehicle. If it didn't articulate in the middle, it would have swung out far more than 12". DeLorean set the standard! (Besides, this way Tesla has something new to patent.)
The SLS doesn't count as a major production car? I guess I'd buy that, they probably don't sell all that many of them.
