Man Ontario plates are soooo cheaply made these days. And they charge $99.10 to replace a personalized plate. :cursing:

There seems to be a generation of plates from a few of years ago that are absolutely horrible. The paint just flakes off the metal in giant chunks. I have a set of plates on my ICE car that have been transferred multiple times dating back to around 1994 and they are still good as new. The blue plates that Tesla provided me in early 2013 held up fine too. I think it was a generation of plates somewhere between 2000 and 2010 that were really bad.

I'm old enough to remember when you actually got whole new plates each year. Ontario would alternate between blue text on white / white text on blue every other year.

I used a cover on my N TESLA front plate but not the rear, and now the paint on the rear plate is disintegrating. Crap, should have put a cover on the back too. Man Ontario plates are soooo cheaply made these days. And they charge $99.10 to replace a personalized plate. :cursing:

Is it bad that I think that $99.10 sounds like a deal. I figured they'd charge full pop to replace personalized plates.

I remember the alternating plates... but by the time I got my license they switched to the tags.

The GV plates on my Roadster, which I got the same year as the personalized plates, show no sign of deterioration whatsoever. Mind you the Roadster doesn't get winter driven.

Me too, but my recollection is that they were originally supposed to be 5 year plates with annual renewal tags. At some point the MTO figured they'd just carry on with the tags.

It's probably one of those laws that the cops use whenever a motorist annoys them.... you know, write up as many tickets as he/she can possibly think of.

You're probably right, but in areas where speed, red light or toll cams are commons, supposedly they get more antsy about plastic covers. Apparently they create a glare which hides the plates from the cameras.

Then there's always the 1/10 of 1% that is a stickler for rules or uses any excuse to pull over someone who has been profiled. It would really suck for me if Georgia highway patrol pulled me over for a license plate cover since that state doesn't recognize the Quebec driver's license.
