Refreshed 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid waiting room

Finally got a call through to the Fremont factory direct number on Friday… and got some bad news.

I ordered my 6 seater Model X LR on 2/27/21. Blue exterior, white interior, and FSD. Current EDD in the portal is February. Delivery is supposed to be DC area.

The rep at Fremont looked up my RN number and said I won’t get my car before July. “February is just a placeholder.” I asked if they’d even started production on my car, and he checked and said no.

I can’t wait for my Model X, but it’s disappointing to be misled with a fake delivery date, when they have a real internal estimate that’s 6 months later…
I don’t totally believe he’s telling the truth. I think most SAs have no access or idea wtf is going on. I talked to mine 2 days ago (1/23/21 order, 6 seat LR) and he said “I should actually be in the February batch but they don’t give [them] much more info than the customer gets” and he apologized profusely. Super nice guy the entire 350 days I’ve been waiting considering my original EDD was March 2021.
I’d be lying if I said the lack of info over almost a year wasn’t making me rethink going through with the order. Currently dealing with my 11 month old Pacifica in the shop for battery issues, so that’s a blast.

You're right. We've had SAs tell us that deliveries haven't been happening when we clearly had pictures of them happening. In other cases, SAs claiming certain wheel configs (20s and 22s) weren't shipping yet. Mine claiming I should have had mine last year. They are as clueless as we are. I guess if I was them and kept getting bothered by everyone, I'd start telling everyone a far away date too just so they've leave me alone. I can see him smiling with his feet up on his desk thinking, "I'm a free man for 6 months."

That was exactly my thought. Tell people far out so they stop calling. I’m sure they’ve run out of excuses to tell everyone long ago at this point.

I’m holding out a slim hope. I called my SA (also super nice guy) after talking to the guy at the Fremont Factory Direct and he said he’s still seeing February timeline on his end (even though I know that’s likely BS). Hoping the guy I spoke to in Fremont was telling me a date far away so people like me stop calling. Several pages back earlier this week someone else said they got a July estimate when they called Fremont. Here’s to hoping!

You're right. Someone did have July but he had ordered in June/July 2021. That is understandable. A year wait is what we should expect based on historical data unless something changes.

Edit: There are exceptions though such as some of our 2020 folks with 6 seat configs.

In light of the upcoming FSD price increase, I want to share my FSD experience for those who are considering adding it. Personally, I'm glad I got it. The yoke was made for FSD and it's helpful when you have a bunch of kids in the car, competing with the road to get your attention. I use it every day during school drop-off and pick-up.

FSD is able to recognize traffic lights, stop signs and lanes well. It does better with more cars surrounding it than when you're driving alone on a small street. This is expected since it uses radar. In regards to the lane change feature. I find it quite effective. As a safety precaution, FSD requires the driver to confirm before it makes a lane change. This feature can be turned off, which I did. Then, the car is able to maneuver when it feels safe to do so based on its algorithm. Contrary to other experiences I've read, the car can execute quite quickly.

Here's a link to a video I took while using FSD on city streets this morning
The smart summon feature is interesting. I have not had enough time to play with it as much as I would like. The last time I tried, it went to my neighbor's driveway instead of finding me in mine. I guess it's close enough, but that maybe user error as much as car error. For those not familiar, summon is when the car move forward and backward in a straight line. Smart summon is in Beta. It's supposed to be able to find you within reasonable distance and navigate itself to avoiding obstacles when coming to you (or a target you set). Imagine never having to be in the rain again because the car can meet you at the curbside. Well, that's the goal anyway. The jury is still out on this one.

Self parking is a hit or miss feature. When it's able to locate a parking spot, the car parks itself sufficiently. However, it doesn't detect parking spots as often as I would like it to. I believe this is a feature best used with other cars surrounding it due to its use of radar technology. I find that I can park much quicker by doing it myself than by using this feature.

In short, you should spend that extra $10K now before the price go up. If you have buyer's remorse you can take it off later but you can't get it for the same price if you wait.

I’ll approach this from the other side and say it’s definitely not worth it. 😀

Everyone has differing opinions, right.

I chose the monthly subscription, which I would recommend prior to officially buying. Most people that I know that try the subscription end up canceling.

I plan to cancel after I play with the FSD beta a few more months. The in-city FSD (beta) is an adventure to say the least. Not even close to being ready for prime time.

Actually, I think the SAs are *more* clueless than we are! After 824 pages of comments, we may even know more than Elon :)

Some new figures from @troyteslike on Twitter. His predictions have shown a margin of error between 2.6% to 3.1% in 2021. A relatively credible reputation.

He currently estimates the MX backlog at 19,460.
S/X combined production in Q1 at 2,030 units, Q2 at 1,895 units, Q3 at 9,289 units and Q4 at 11,750 units.

Those aren’t projections. Those are 2021 figures

Those appear to be the estimates of 2021 production.

I want to share another part of my MX Plaid delivery experience for those of you who spec'd your cars with 22's and haven't yet picked up your cars. Not sure how useful this will be, but I'm passing it along, since others' observations helped me while I was still in the waiting phase of this process.

When they brought my car to the front of the delivery center, I noticed they hadn't installed the "slugs" that fit between the spokes of the 22" wheels. They're present in the configurator, and are installed on the car they used for the "Get to know your Model X" video in the portal. Turns out they're shipped with the car (in the frunk) in a box and it's up to the delivery folks to install them before delivery. My delivery specialist brought an installer to chat with me when I asked why they hadn't been installed on the wheels, and he explained to me that getting them on is fine, but if I ever wanted to remove them, he's noticed upon removal, the little tension clips tend to scratch the rims. For this reason, he left it up to me to make the decision (which I thought was pretty conscientious on his part).

See pics below. I do like the look of the wheels without them, as the absence has the effect of visually stretching the diameter of the wheel. Of course the little notches will probably bug me over time, and without the slugs, the wheel doesn't look as "finished". There may be some aerodynamic benefit I'm missing (fractional increased range being a byproduct), but that doesn't really matter to me as much as the aesthetic. For the time being, I think I'm going to go commando for a while. What do you guys think?

We know this can't be true. Per the aggregate Google docs MX order tracking, we have seen deliveries for MX LR 6 seaters. This must be a generic response since so many ppl are directly calling the Fremont center.
