Replacement keys

I got my Roadster 2.0 ( 2010 ) 4 weeks ago with about 6000 Km on the clock.
Unfortunetelly I got only one key as the previous owner had misplaced the keys.

I've been told by Tesla that it might be a problem to order new keys, and that they first have to try to program new keys, otherwise the whole unit would have to be replaced.

Has somebody else hat to order replacement keys from Tesla?

We had our "2nd" key die. Several replacement battery tries and the buttons would not work. At last servicing (24K) I gave hem all three (Valet key included) and was told they had to replace the broken one. I don't think they replaced the column.

Really??!! There should not be a problem. I lost a key for my 2.0 and had it replaced in the following way: 1. Telsa tech pulls a blank one out of his spare keys drawer, 2. He "programs" it (it took about a minute and was done on-site) and, 3. I take the blank to the hardware store to get it cut. It cost me $65 for the key and $0.99 to have it cut. It works perfectly.
