Revised Charge Port Door

Just got off the phone with my local SC. My P3D+ is in for issues that I brought up during delivery: small dent on the trunk lid, small paint chip on the front fender, trunk lid misalignment, glass roof misaligned/not level with the other panel. They managed to fix most of the issues except for the trunk lid alignment. It is a lot better but there is still more room for improvement. At first they said it was "within spec" which I didn't accept, so after some pushing they said they would take a look at it again. My tail lights had a gap that I could basically stick my index finder between the top of the tail light and body of the car. Asked them to take a look at that as well. When I asked about fixing my charge port door as it wasn't sitting in flush like other M3s (mine looks like its open all the time) that I've seen the rep told me that there will be a new revised part coming out in a few months. Has anyone heard this as well?

Haven't heard anything about the new charge port door, but I can commiserate with the P3D+ build quality. Took delivery on 12/5/18 and the car had 2 long scratches on the left front fender and multiple chips in the driver's door sill area. My hood had alignment issues. Only one Tesla approved body shop in my area and the first available opening for my repair is on 2/18/19.

Tesla Rocklin gave me that "within spec" line and my question to him was if the factory workers had any pride of workmanship. I asked the body shop to try their best in centering the hood. Delivery experience was disappointing to say the least.

It could be a side effect of the development of the new CCS2 port - e.g. they made some improvements with the CCS2 which are "backend" improvements (not specific to the port type) and are back-porting those improvements to the North American port.

Rocklin should have caught these and had them fixed, but the pressure to deliver before end of the year is high.

Key word being should have. When we took delivery, we were the first ones there and when I mentioned the panel gap, he seemed offended I would even ask the question. There was a red model 3 parked next to me prepped for delivery and the panel gap between the rear door and rear fender was wide enough for my finger to slide easily into it. Delivery specialist also told them the gap was within Tesla specs.
