Russia/Ukraine conflict

Those are fine on good paved roads, but they would be more trouble then they're worth on damaged roads, dirt roads, or off road. A gopher hole can defeat one.
I have the same model…and they are pretty good off road…this is mine after doing the weeks shopping

Eisenhower makes an incredibly poignant statement at 1:17.

What's being asked of us today in support of democracy is a rounding error compared to what has been sacrificed already. And balking at such a small ask is a betrayal of staggering proportions.

"These men came here to storm these beaches for one purpose only, not to gain anything for themselves, but to preserve freedom for others. They didn't know, but they believed that the strength of America could help prevent the growth of an evil worldwide. They believed that a free people can stand firm against any oppression. Their cause was the cause of mankind. In the vast stretch of these beaches they laid down their lives for the freedoms that we now enjoy. The world will forever be grateful to these brave men who fought here."

Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges on Times Radio.

Some Main Points:

The US needs to state that their Strategic Objective is that Ukraine Wins this War against the Russian Dictator and his occupying forces.
– There needs to be a No Fly Zone over Ukraine as a whole. (At 07:17 into the vid.)
– Ukraine must be allowed to strike Legitimate Military targets inside of the Dictator's Russia with ATACMS and Taurus.
– The Democratic West must start supplying ATACMS/Taurus/Storm Shadow/SCALP in sufficient quantitates STAT/ASAP! This means quickly ramping production of these weapons.

It’s been said that China has been studying the Russian war on Ukraine closely. But so has Taiwan and likely collaborating with Ukraine:

The boat can “sail autonomously in the absence of GPS and communication equipment,” and can “return home through its own computer calculations.” The platform has “multiple uses” like “minesweeping, minelaying” and even “suicide attacks.”

The smell of escalation: Putin says he is considering supplying weapons to third parties so they can attack other countries that supplied weapons to Ukraine.

"The smell of escalation"

Really?...

IMO it merely smells like a pretty crappy variation of the existing list of Empthy Threats. Remember: The Russian Dictator knows that his occupying forces in Ukraine will be Completely Wiped Out if he enters into a conflict with NATO. Therefore the Dictator is doing absolutely everything to avoid getting into a conflict with NATO.

What kind of weapons? And supply to what "third parties"? And what country are those "third parties" going to attack?

Not only can we ask where he's going to get the weapons to give to the west's enemies, but the next question is, who is he going to give these weapons to? Give Cuba ballistic missiles to they can attack the US? Cuba would be starting a war which they would lose in a matter of weeks.

Give missiles to North Korea? They are already selling their missiles to Russia. They make their own. Give them to the Houthis or Hamas? How are they going to smuggle Iskanders and launchers into those countries?

This threat is about as hollow as Russia threatening an amphibious invasion of New York if the US doesn't stop.

As the article mentions, "Military spending is doing that."

GDP is the term commonly applied to measure the economic "growth" of a country. It may be the single best tool for such, but far from perfect. During a war economy, GDP often increases but for reasons that break away from real and sustainable growth.

GDP = Consumption + Investment + Government Spending + Net Exports. Putin's Russia is heavy on consumption and government spending, but reduced exports and most importantly very little investment (except in building things that explode). Investment is the long term driver of economic growth.

More from the article:

...But spend big on the military and there’s less to spend on everything else.
“Longer term, you are destroying the economy,” believes Chris Weafer, founding partner of Eurasian consultancy firm Macro-Advisory. “There is no money going into future development.”
He says back in 2020 there was much discussion about the National Project programme, under which $400bn was to be spent on improving Russia’s infrastructure, transportation and communications. Instead, “almost all that money has been side-tracked to fund the military industrial-complex and support stability in the economy”.

So the sanctions come with the implied thread that your economy will suffer after the war. That used to be known as collective punishment (and would be if Israel employed the tactic) and is no incentive to shorten the war. In fact it has the precise opposite effect...it strengthens the coalition of bad actor states...it improves their collective economy at the expense of the west’s economy and security. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be sanctions...but they should be enforced....not letting rival economies get cheap energy which they can then turn around into cheap manufactured goods to export back to the west ....

I wouldn't underestimate Putin's desperation. I'm willing to bet he will give one or more of his cheap drones to one of his third party operatives. And try to cause a massive burn somewhere in the world, perhaps at a petroleum related site.

Iran beat him to this long ago. Hamas, Houthis, Hezbollah et al; in the last 2-2.5 years they expanded to supplying Russia itself.
