There used to be other assembly plants in the Bay area, but they are long gone. Unfortunately part of the reason is the high cost of doing business in CA. For example Ford had plants in Milpitas and Richmond.This is why no one built car factories in the Bay Area. The cost of prolonged shut down in Fremont is significantly higher than Michigan.
Would think you will start to see assembly plants elsewhere start to shutdown, some because of parts shortages. Interesting that the UAW seems to have a lot of say in these decisions (assume it's in their contracts). although I assume governmental decisions override everything (but of course the manufacturers and UAW have plenty of political clout)
