Shopping for an ICE for my wife...

I don’t think ICE buyers are foolish, but I do think they should be cognizant of the fact that these vehicles (and their resale prices) will be negatively impacted by all of these factors.
Yes, but in 3-6 years when we EV owners try to sell our "old" cars we are going to discover that any new EV has at least 50% more range. EVs technology is progressing really fast. This will depreciate our cars more than we'd like.

It's ok though as that depreciation will make it viable for buyers in lower price brackets. For ex. when I have to get a car a 2nd teen in a few years, I'm gonna go EV but I'm not shelling out 40K, so I'll be looking at a subcompact style used one. If I had to get one today, it'd be the BMW i3s w/o the training wheels ICE engine. That car was 48K new, roflmao, but used can be had around 25K.

I know a lot of people disagree with this point but Tesla is a daily commuter car. It's meant to be charged at home 95% of time. As a result we need to compare visiting gas stations 1-2 times per week vs a supercharger once in three months.
Who goes to the gas station twice a week? I’m not saying EVs aren’t more convenient for commuting distances, but people need to stop acting like gas stations are a big deal. 5 minutes of fueling every 400-600 miles of driving, the horror!

I drive a lot for work putting about 20-22k per year. This makes it about 1,800/month. For a CRV it's about 5 trips. So, as I said 1-2 times per week. I didn't say it's horror but it takes about 10-15 min each.

I would not get an EV for my kiddo as a first car. Too much much power while hormone overdose is a bad combination for a young boy 😁

I love my MY but I wouldn’t say I would never buy another ICE vehicle. EVs provide a ton more performance for the buck than ICE vehicles, but like others have said the fit finish and quality of the MY is not as good as similarly priced ICE vehicles.

Like I said I love my vehicle, but I’m not a fan at all of the company that makes it. There seems to be a hubris associated with Tesla (and many of its customers) that’s just off-putting. We say a yoke is better, you don’t need a spare, we say cameras are better than LiDAR and don’t care what anyone else says, you don’t need to call a service center use the app like we say to do… it’s not a customer centric organization. Also, Tesla service is garbage and their communication is worse. I’m looking forward to when the other manufactures close the EV tech gap (Volkswagen is coming) and I’ll have the option to shop other brands.

You're not alone. Since getting the wife's MYP I've realized I that I love the user interface in a Tesla. I don't miss all the dials and knobs. I don't get how ppl still want every knob and switch still, perplexes me.
My wife likes the Mach-E since it is a mixture of tech and buttons. I was able to move to two EV vehicles in the household and she is happy because it reminds her of a gasoline guzzler but she never has to stop at a gas station. Good thing is there are different options to help bridge the ICE to EV transition for those that just cannot give up their buttons.

The quality of my Y I picked up Dec 23, 2021 is wonderful. No issues, no panel gaps, no items not working....... We drove the VW ID 4 but the software issues killed it for us.

Tesla could learn a few things from the MME. I loved having physical controls for the wipers and volume (with an off button too). This is simple human computer interaction design. I want quick access to common items in known locations.

As I’ve mentioned before, I much prefer the driver safety features of the MME. Like the cross traffic alerts since I often can’t see over trucks parked next to me. And BlueCruise works so well… I miss it. Hands free driving is something all cars should have. No more nagging please (my Prime is a nag fest - keep your hands on the wheel).

Perhaps you had a broken Tesla. Mine has physical controls for the wipers and for the volume including the off button.

Yes, we all could see how the Blue Clues works in multiple reviews including the one by Sandy Munro.

Thanks Karen? Don't know wtf this point serves. Are you trying to make some social commentary? A new Honda Civic does 130mph.
Yes, and we all will die! Blame the Honda!
A couple good things about Tesla are that I can limit the max speed and that I can see where the car is driving. I do consider giving our M3 to our child in a few years.

Yea, they do have some good "limiter" features but at some point, knock on wood, you have to trust the kid to make the right decision.

On a side note, my oldest told me his friend's 'rents got him a Hellcat. I'm like wtf? Around here it's not uncommon to get Porsches and what not for a first car, but man, a Hellcat?

Been trying to find a replacement for my wife's 2016 C300 since we have a baby on the way and she refuses to give up the MYLR to me  We are only looking at an ICE vehicle for long distance trips to the mountains. Was a nervous wreck going to Cherokee Casino in her when I had togo 30 mins out of the way to supercharge...

That's part of the fun of gambling; taking the risk that you won't make it to the casino.
The Catawba tribe is building a casino in your neck of the woods you should be able to get there and back on a single charge.

On the west coast, you don't need a back up ICE car so I'd say it might be a regional or comfort thing. If you've ever seen a Costco gas station on the west coast... I mean the hell? That's the Garden Grove location. I go to the Fountain Valley location and the lines wrap all the way around the complex. The line must be like a mile long. It's insanity.
