Suggestions on how to handle this Trunk Damage?

Hi,

My wife backed out of the garage with the trunk opened and the end result was this does anyone know if there’s a truck lid panel that I can just have Tesla replaced? Body work seems like it will be 3-4k Any input on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated!

Body shop would not repair that. They would just replace the hatch. Just had mine replaced after someone backed into mine.

Just read your tread again. Tesla probably wouldn't replace that. It would have to be done at a approved body shop

x2 and they probably do not come painted, which is likely why it would have to go to a body shop.

My TM3 was rear ended where part of the $13k bill was a new trunk lid. It came unpainted for the body shop.

That's some impressive damage for backing up with the hatch open considering that the hatch is made of steel, not aluminum or fiberglass. Is there a chance that maybe your wife does not like the Tesla Model Y?

In fairness I've done this too, albeit without the same consequences

The really embarrassing part is that as I was reversing I was trying to work out what was wrong with the camera, why it was giving me such an unusual picture (with the tailgate open, it points upwards)

I took it to two Tesla authorized body shop. Both places wanted 8-9k

Looks like I’ll be paying my deductible. Would this be a comprehensive damage or collision damage? I wonder if my premium will go up next year.

Your insurance would make that determination. My hunch is it will fall under collision based on my personal similar-ish experience. And the rate increase depends a whole lot on your insurance company sometimes one claim bites you, sometimes not.

My hatch replacement including removing the rear glass and re-install to new hatch, repainting the bumper, had a slight scratch and replace bottom defuser came out to around $8K

With these numbers, that trunk photo is looking better and better. I'm not even sure I can spot the damage anymore.
