Supercharger - Henryetta, OK

This is one that I'm super excited about! I traveled back and forth to SE Alabama from Colorado Springs during the holidays. I took the northern route going out (I-70 through St Louis then to Nashville) but decided to take the middle route (I-40) on the way back because of a blizzard in Kansas. The problem was a 30-mph head-wind in Oklahoma. Basically, I had to fully charge in Van Buren (Ft Smith) and drive well under the speed limit to make it to OKC with only 2% remaining (2021 Model Y LR). Navigation _really_ wanted me to go well out of my way to Tusla then to OKC. Even so, I would still have to fully charge in Tulsa. So, I told myself, I would never do that again until Tesla added a SC mid-way on I-40 between Ft Smith and OKC. Also, the southern route is fine too (I-20) - but the middle route avoids Dallas.

The problem was a 30-mph head-wind in Oklahoma.

I had a similar situation in my M3LR heading east from OKC to St Petersburg, FL. It was raining in OK. We left home in NW OKC @ 100% and normally would not have an issue making Van Buren, but it was raining pretty hard with lots of road ponding. When the charge graph arrival prediction went below 0% I stopped early at the Tesla destination chargers at the casino on I-40 near McLoud, OK and added 2%. (full battery, very slow) That plus driving @ 62 mph and we arrived with 5%.

I'm sure there are hundreds around the country that we've not heard from that will love this SC addition plus the other planned I-40 NEVI sites.

ODOT just voted on and approved NEVI funding at today’s commission meeting. Hopefully we see some quick movement from Tesla as well as Love’s for their stations.

Edit: Also for anyone interested, someone on Reddit found the equipment Love’s will be using for their NEVI sites (at least in Georgia, probably everywhere). Here is a Summary from a winning NEVI bid in Georgia.

They are (2) Chargepoint units with NACS on one side of each charger and CCS1 on the other side. Since they can charge simultaneously they count as (4) chargers for NEVI purposes. They will have (16) charging modules shared between them for 640kW of total power or 160kW per port if they are all in use.

This PDF has the full specs on the chargers I think they will use (unless there is a 500 amp NACS version not shown on Chargepoint’s site). The NACS side supports 375 amps which means most Teslas will get a peak of 135kW from them which is basically V2 Supercharger speeds. I would guess the Cybertruck at 900V will get more.

It's been a long time coming, through delays in the host's site development, and then just wondering when it was going to happen, but now, ladies and gentlemen, for your entertainment ...

Splitter! On I-40, Henryetta, OK splits 187.9 miles, 92.6 miles from Oklahoma City - NE 36th St, OK, 97.2 miles to Van Buren, AR.

This is, as many, many Tesla owners and non-Tesla-owning Supercharger nerds are aware, the largest gap on current Interstates in the lower 48.
(I was thinking this was the only one left over 140 miles, but there are 4 others. There are also a number of larger gaps for transitions between Interstates.)

But not just that! This site is also a useful splitter on US-62 and US-75.

Just curious. What are the other 4 locations with 140 mi between supercharger locations?

Unfortunately, the OKC and Catoosa Superchargers mentioned in that article are already installed. The Hard Rock Casino Supercharger in Catoosa was installed years ago. The only new Supercharger is the one being put in Henrietta.
The Catoosa Supercharger is being expanded with the NEVI Funds. There are (8) V2 Superchargers today. NEVI Funds will add (12) new Magic Dock equipped V4 Supercharger stalls making the grand total 20 chargers in Catoosa.

The Oklahoma City NEVI winning location is a new one on Bell Isle boulevard and will be V4 with Magic Docks.

There are (2) existing Supercharger locations in the OKC area. The first is at the outlet malls and is a V2 site. The second is a V3 that was relatively recently added that is near the Capitol. Neither of these two sites will be getting NEVI funds.

Bell Isle Boulevard? I'm confused why they would put one so close to the new one at the Homeland on 36th Street. I really want one along I-35 so I don't have to deviate from my path too far.

I know where the Superchargers are in OKC as I've been to both of them.

I hope Henrietta happens soon. Any word on Tulsa receiving anymore Superchargers? The Catoosa one is in a terrible location out of the way. The one in West Tulsa Hills is big and has a lot to do around it but still wish they'd put one closer to south/east Tulsa since I use a super slow wall plug when I visit my dad.

No new Superchargers in Tulsa to my knowledge but out east there is a pretty much brand new Electrify America at the Target in Broken Arrow if you have a CCS adapter.

It was built with their new Signet units which I've had pretty good luck with. I use them on my way back from Muskogee sometimes. I precondition by telling my nav that I'm driving to the Tulsa hills Supercharger which triggers battery preconditioning then turn off at the last minute to use the EA station instead as I get closer to town. I get a full 195kW with those chargers so they're pretty fast.

It may be possible that ODOT hasn't released the NEVI award funding yet (or they haven't granted the winners permission to proceed yet). We have a lot of news stories on the funds getting awarded and I did personally see the vote pass committee but the official EVOK website still hasn't been updated. There may be little more bureaucracy to get through before work can begin.
