Per Find Us, a new 8 stall V3 Supercharger just opened at Mel & Faye’s Diner in Jackson, CA

Who’ll be the first to check this one out?

Interesting. Around the start of this year I did a visit to the Placerville Supercharger, and afterwards met up with a friend who lives in Jackson, at this very spot.

Not seeing the Supercharger on the nav in my car yet. Also, the entry for Jackson in the list of Tesla Superchargers is wrong, it points to the page for a (future?) Sonora, CA Supercharger. I presume both of these will get fixed eventually.

Bruce.

PS. Mel and Faye's is pretty good IMHO.

It's on my nav. But said 0 of 8 in use... which means that either no one is there, or they arent quite operational yet. Would love to know if anyone has used one so I can recommend my wife stop there.

Can't believe this just popped up out of blue. I was waiting for Stockton to get turned last winter, because charging in Manteca to get to kirkwood is a bit challenging because I need to charge to 95% in the Model X, and 85% in the Model S, and it takes awhile for that last bit of charge. And then with bikes or skiis on the racks, even harder. So even getting the 20 extra miles to Stockton would have been huge. But now, with Jackson, that is a game changer. Probably one quick bathroom break charging stop is all I will need. And with Stockton coming online soon (fingers crossed), and with the second Manteca one open, I know I have multiple options depending on what kind of store I might need to hit up.

Ask her to stop by there anyway and check status/take pictures. I doubt very many will have been by yet by the time she'll be going past, and the odds that one of the few who might have will also be a poster on this forum makes it highly unlikely anyone will be able to give you a definitive answer in time. I just checked Plugshare and there weren't any pics or check-ins for this supercharger over there either.

Pictures! Photo credit goes to Eric Butow (Twitter @ebutow), my good friend from post #2 who despite not being a Tesla owner (yet) offered to go do some intel gathering for me.

As you can see, the pedestals are lit up and there was apparently a Model X plugged in and charging. Eric said there's a charging station of another type as well. We've seen Tesla wall connectors with either Tesla or J1772 heads at some recent Supercharger builds, so I wonder if it might be one of those.

Nice! So that is not my wife's Model X. She was close to Manteca, and she was going to stop, but then she finally saw that 1 of 8 chargers were in use. We just wanted some kind of confirmation people were using them. So I bet that the 1 out of 8 was this guy. So, she zoomed past Manteca and went all the way to Jackson and is just finishing her charge now. I told her to take pictures, but I don't she cares about whether I can post to TMC, so not sure if I will get them. I saw she got up to 95Kwh per hour which is as best as she can get in her old 90D. Looking forward to trying Mel and Faye's.

Walking distance from the charger is a cute little downtown- about a block long. There are some wineries not far from there on Ridge road. I think there is a casino nearby? Further up 88 there is a snow park, and then of course Kirkwood if you like winter activities. Hope valley is pretty especially when the leaves are turning. In the summer, there are a ton of good hlkes and lots of great mountain biking. Kayaking rentals at Caples lake. And of course good clean mountain air!

FWIW, the “coming soon” Sonora pin is gone. So was this the Sonora supercharger?

Nice to see those go in. However would still hope that Sonora does go in. While we’ve enjoyed driving up to Jackson and Placerville on a past trip to Gold Country, due to timing on long weekend vacations we’ve come in on 120 near Jamestown and up 49 and hung around Sonora, Columbia, Murphy’s with plenty to do there. Jackson isn’t all that far but would have been in the wrong direction for most of our previous trips east to Gold Country. Also found 49 could be slow especially on summer weekends.

We missed out on tours at The Kennedy Goldmine and Argonaunt, got there too late in the day and think one had flooding issues, so would love to revisit the area and use the Supercharger in Jackson this time. We spent a good many hours at the Sutter Gold Mine, near Jackson, on one of their tours. This was several ago and when they would take you on guided tours climbing up through some of the stopes and let you actually mine in one of the quartz areas with a hard rock hammer. Heard once gold prices had gone up they stopped giving those tours however. We did find their tour of the mine, with buggie ride down into the mountain and then in a meeting room down at some level well worth our hours spent in the area. Tour then included talking about how early miners used the canaries and candles and then they plunged all of us in the dark for a period of time. Hit home how frightening it can be working down in mines when something goes wrong. Would still recommend if they are running tours but I know they also had major flooding back in 2014 and had closed during that time. Not sure if they were ever able to reopen. BTW the underground caves up in that area were equally fascinating and some great examples of stalactites and stalagmites.

In general found 49 from Jamestown to Placerville to be a Great vacation destination to experience California’s gold country over several days. Fun to pan or sluice in the rivers, tour the gold mines and historic gold areas (park areas of Columbia and the stamping area up by Marshall State Park). Some great wineries in the area too. Loved Ironstone Winery in Murphys and attended evening concerts there during the summer a few times. Not sure what’s open with covid but definitely hit it up when things open up again. Easy trip from the SF Bay area.

Stopped here to charge today. I noticed a couple things that I didn't see in any pictures before. First: A big white shipping-container-like thing on a concrete slab, covered in a white tarp. Not sure what this is. Could this be a Powerpack?

Second: It looks like the pedestals are mounted backwards. I would think the place where the cable comes out of the pedestal should be towards the front of the vehicles so you don't have to back so far into the stall. So the cable hangs front to back, and the place where you hang the cable end should be towards the back of the vehicles. I looked at pictures I have of several other Supercharger sites that have V2/V3 pedestals installed parallel to the direction the vehicles face (Sacramento Freeport Blvd., Truckee Donner Pass Rd., and Williams) and they are all mounted this way...like opposite of Jackson.

Looks like a Megapack battery system. You can see similarly covered/packed units in the lower left background of the below picture from the Megapack battery installation being constructed at Moss Landing for PG&E:
