Supercharger - Roseville, CA - Douglas Boulevard (LIVE 18 Oct 2023, 16 Stalls)

I was able to charge this morning, even though it didn't show up on the screen.

Need for Tesla Advertising / PR

I can't remember the last time I actually paid attention to ANY advertisement. I watch recorded shows and skip all the commercials. I don't read newspapers or magazines. Any adds that appear in my Twitter/FaceBook/whatever feed I quickly recognized as an add and skip over it without...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

What I find interesting is that all the press I can find online concerning the event completely misses the features of the factory -- 4680, building many of the sub-components on site, etc., basically all the stuff from the tour. They only focus on the few tidbits from his presentation -- and...

Launching 4900 lb boat with 1200 lb trailer with MXP

Launching shouldn't be a problem, as long as you don't jerk the trailer around -- as you said, slowly and carefully! Pulling the boat out may be more of an issue, since you'll have to climb the ramp, and there may be additional weight from any water in the hull. I suspect you'll be well within...

Stopped here on the return trip and all is good again.

Supercharger - Glendive, MT (LIVE Jun 2020, 8 V3 stalls)

Glendive is down - all stations would not charge my car, and someone else reported the same results. Called Tesla and they diagnosed a problem with the car, but I was able to charge with no problems in Dickinson when I finally got there.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Sorry about the link, but that's what showed up with a Google search. In any case, according to Tesla (Emergency Response Guide) the model S does contain ultra high-strength steel in key areas.
  10. Phil Seastrand

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This is not true. The Model S (and Model X) have sections of high-strength and ultra high-strength steel in the b-pillars and top cross members as shown below: You can see this steel in the after photos of the burned shell. The steel is what's left behind.

    Cyber Lndr (Camper for Cybertruck)

1200 lbs dry, 1360 lbs wet (40 gal fresh, 20 gal gray). They talk about a dolly being developed to remove/install it into the truck -- no details other than that. Nothing about securing it to the bed yet. I assume it plugs into the outlet shown at the Cybertruck reveal and therefore could be...

Thanks for all the work to get this update installed and running. One feature from the old version that appears to be missing (and was something I used a lot) was the link in the lower right of each page that showed the remaining posts in a thread and the link took you to the next page. I...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I've never understood these comments that the interior of "luxury ICE brands" are much better than Tesla. I've owned and ridden in many "luxury ICE brands" and am not impressed (compared to Tesla).

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Check this out: https://twitter.com/VGrinshpun/status/1302100259674390530 Looks like Consumer Reports is stooping to new lows as they falsify their reporting to make FSD look bad.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

at least with the Prius, the gas motor is tuned for higher RPM performance and has very little torque at low RPMs. Therefore the electric motor is required to start moving the car from a stop.

How hard should I have to torque the steering wheel to keep autopilot engaged?

no, I found that picture on the internet. What I do is a mirror on that image - my left hand on the left side. But it could be either one, just whichever works best for you.
  25. Phil Seastrand

How hard should I have to torque the steering wheel to keep autopilot engaged?

I grab the wheel at about 6:30-7:00 and apply a light twist with my wrist (see below only I use my left hand). This has worked for me for many, many miles.

    When to retire?

I retired from HP at 50 when they made an early retirement offer to me and my wife (also working at HP) that we couldn't pass up. The biggest issue we faced was cash flow. I had plenty of retirement funds, but most were not available at 50 years old. You need to figure out how you will...

    FWD Sensor Defect

You should be able to see on the Quick View screen if the sensors are detecting anything. It happened with my car due to the sun heating the one side. I also had to have the top sensor replaced because it failed and wouldn't sense anything.

    Battery discharging after 2020.20.13 update

This is happening to me as well. I'm on 2020.20.12 and I'm losing ~3% each day. Definitely didn't do this on the previous release and nothing else has changed. It has to be a bug in the firmware. I've reported it to Tesla.

The shudder problem: Current status (end of February 2020)

Thanks. I'll try low for awhile and keep an eye on the tires.
  32. Phil Seastrand

The shudder problem: Current status (end of February 2020)

As I understand it, if we set the suspension to "Low" the shudder disappears because the half-shafts are near alignment (i.e., they are close to horizontal to the wheel hubs and differential). But doing this causes the inside of the tires to wear more because of the tow-in set in the...

    Trailer Mode Won't Turn Off

I just got back from the service center on this issue. They found a blown fuse. Concern: Customer states: The trailer mode indicator is defaulting to blue, indicating a trailer is detected even without the hitch installed. I can manually override to enable Autopilot but looking for a permanent...

The shudder problem: Current status (end of February 2020)

I just dropped off my Raven Model X for the shudder issue. The tech test drove it and said it wasn't that bad and they wouldn't fix it at this time. The bad news is that he said it was a problem with the design and that there would probably never be a permanent fix.

    Speed limit sign recognition

I read somewhere that this was due to a patent issue with Mobile-Eye, but someone else said that's not the case. So, I'm not sure we really know why.

Cannot find smart Summon (come to me)

Make sure "Standby Mode" is enabled. Set this via Controls -> Autopilot -> Customize Summon -> Standby Mode.

Navigation image prefers zoomed out view

If you use pinch to zoom, the car thinks it's a temporary request and will return to the default zoom after ~30 seconds as you've described. If you want the zoom change to be "permanent", use the zoom in/zoom out touch-points on the right side of the screen.

  41. Phil Seastrand

Anyone leave the tow receiver on all the time?

The only risk is getting more dirt up inside the rear bumper through the opening. I wouldn't recommend it with bad weather. Also it will have a minor impact on your range.
