The only time we got close to running out of electricity was when a relative didn't listen to my ban on charging cars, but I caught that in time.

I think a lot of people just think electricity is magic and don't care to understand the limitations. I went to the protest at Standing Rock a couple years ago; Someone had donated a large trailer mounted battery bank with ~2kW of solar attached. They were really just using it as a phone charger but somehow the battery was always dead in the morning and it had just been sitting there. One night I was walking by and saw an extension cord connected to 3 more extension cords going off into a tent. It was warm to the touch; Someone had been running a space heater in their tent and that's why the battery was always dead.....
