What rumor? Here's what the release notes say about 2020.40.7:

Improved Efficiency
Your car's range has increased with new software that improves the efficiency of the motors and the climate control system.

Note: These changes do not impact acceleration or overall climate control performance.

Just got 40.8 yesterday, range increased 7 miles.

Me too, got an 8-mile increase assuming my phone app is correctly reporting what happened. BTW I have just 1760 miles on my Y and have never charged it more than 93%.

Got my increase as well. Phone app shows increase of 11 miles for mine based on what it thought my max was prior to update.
