Switch between phone key and card

So I wanted to leave my phone in the car so I figured I would switch to the key card. Turned bluetooth off on phone. Attempted to lock car with keycard and got three or four rapid horn beeps and doors did not lock. Tried it a few times and no lock locking doors. Turned phone fully off. Same behavior. Turned phone and bluetooth back on and tried walk away lock and it worked fine. What am I doing wrong if I want to leave the phone in the car with bluetooth phone key off and lock with keycard?

I'm gonna guess you need to turn off bluetooth before you walk up to the car(and therefore use the keycard). They are probably making sure that if your phone runs out of power after you get in the car it doesn't lock you in and such.

No doors were open. Checked that first. Im guessing it may be as Sophias_dad said and the car needs to start locked before you turn off the blue tooth.
