Tampa Bay Area - Delivery this Saturday (Hopefully)

Having a good and bad experience waiting for my Model S85 delivery. The delivery specialist at the Tampa Service Center is being extremely proactive with keeping me informed. However, my delivery was initially moved forward and now has been pushed out by a day twice and the anticipation is a real killer. Apparently there were delays in the car arriving in Florida. The latest is a Saturday afternoon delivery.

I have heard of many sightings in the Tampa Bay Area though I have not personally seen one. Hoping to connect and get some tips from local owners.

41hrs to go....

Those 41hrs are going to feel like an eternity if you look at the watch too much ....Congrats on your new MS

Larry - Already clicked the link and filled out the survey. Look forward to being a part of the Tesla / EV movement.

The 41hrs are extremely painful... I was expecting to have the car 3 hours ago and unfortunately that didn't go as planned.

Thanks for the warm welcome,
Steve

TheDoctor, your Model S is in the same truck as mine. My delivery was scheduled for Thursday in Miami. They told me the truck had a problem and got a two day delay, so picking up on Saturday. They did tell me that the truck had to get repaired then go to Tampa to drop some cars, then down to Miami. So it looks like they travelled together.

What version, colors and options did you get?

S85 Silver, Pano Roof, Grey Leather, Tech, Parking Sensors, 19"

Yeah I was told the truck had technical difficulties in Texas. I know it was leaving Atlanta area yesterday and heading to the Tampa service center. I have two potential appointments right now (Friday evening or Saturday afternoon). If your car is going to get to Miami and prepared for pickup Sat then I might have a shot at today! Congrats on yours and hopefully we get them soon.

Small word of caution: when my car was delivered the truck driver arbitrarily decided to drop off in Miami first and then come back to Tampa.....

It does make sense in the regard that 95 goes straight through to Miami and to head to Tampa you have to cut across the state. Ben at the Tampa Service Center did advise me that they will be detailing the car, charging it, and giving it a once over.. Thanks for the additional caution though, it is easy to let the anticpation take control.

Good Luck, Steve! And congrats!

Are you saying it will be delivered to the Service Center today? Typically a car is there for a few days before customer pickup can occur. PDI, detailing, fixes for the things that happen en route, paperwork prep, etc take a minute...

Well TampaLiam, it seems you called it with "correcting things that happen en route". The vehicle arrived and everything checked out with one exception. The front bumper received 3 - 1/2" scratches below the driver side headlight that will require it to be corrected at a local auto-body shop. So my Friday/Saturday delivery just became next week sometime.

Question for anyone that has experience with these kind of issues... I inquired about how they were going to correct this issue and the response was that likely the entire front bumper would get painted with a possibility they would do just a smaller region. My concern is that the Silver of the bumper won't be exactly the same as the body of the car. I have seen a number of paint jobs be "mostly" successful but still obvious to those that look in the right light or have a good eye for detail.

What else should I be asking or verifying? Obviously this is going to be one of the things I will inspect in detail, tips on what/how to ensure it is a quality job?

Doctor, sorry to hear about the scraches and the new delay. I understand that that means the car is already at your SC in Tampa. Did you actually go to see it and noticed the scratches or did they notify you? I am calling mine just to check if there are any news.

As for things to check, there is a very complete checklist here: Tesla Model S Buyers', Delivery and Owners' Guide

Talked to my DS. He said my car is like an hour or two away from Miami, so getting today to the SC and able to be delivered tomorrow. Cross my fingers. I will be checking extra carefully for scratches on the front bumper anyways.

Steve - They have been pretty fantastic when it comes to scratch/dent removal. It is not uncommon for the car carriers to cause minor damage.
If it needs paint - they have been dealing with a premium shop.
You are in good hands with the Tesla Tampa SC staff.
I guess anything is possible with matching or not matching. I would just wait and see how it comes out - and, of course, require 100% perfection.

Thanks for the great information. Glad the Tampa SC has built such a good reputation, makes me much more comfortable. This is far and away the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased and with that comes a tad of anxiety.

I will note that the SC staff and most notably Ben whom I have been dealing with the most are excellent. They have been proactive and kept me in the loop at each step.

Glad to have another Steve in the group! Yesterday was the one month anniversary of my delivery. I still remember how long those last few hours took.

Shortly after I took delivery, I learned that there was another MC Red that was delivered a few days after mine, and the guy lives 1 1/2 blocks from me! Even though he is that close, we rarely see each other.

what I love about the car is that it is not so flashy that it obvious the first time you see it. It's more of a "was that a Tesla I just saw?" Kind of thing.

hope you get your car this weekend. You're gonna love it!

Regards,

The other Tampa Steve

The revised delivery date is now 10/25 ... Hopefully when I get to see the car there is not further resolution that needs to occur before we accept delivery.
Man, that really stinks! But, this happens with transport of any car. Just rotten when you were so close to getting it today.

At least you'll have it for next month's Cars and Coffee at DuPont. We'll have a bigger group there next month, from the looks of things!
