Newman man dies in crash in construction zone on Patterson’s Sperry Avenue — The Modesto Bee
A collision in a construction zone turned fatal, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.

“Newman man died in a collision on Sperry Avenue in Patterson early Friday morning, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred in a construction zone at American Eagle Avenue at 4:41 a.m.
Jesus Zeferino Avila, 28, was driving a 2002 BMW at high speed west on Sperry, according to a press release. When he entered the intersection, he hit a dip in the road that was there due to the construction.
The BMW “momentarily went airborne,” struck a landscaped center median, then collided with an eastbound Tesla, just west of the intersection.
Avila died at the scene. It does not appear he was wearing a seat belt, according to authorities.
The driver of the Tesla, a 36-year-old Patterson man, had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team investigated the crash.
