Tesla Refusing to Give 70 Point Inspection on CPO?

Hi everyone,

Going in for delivery of my 2015 Model S 70D tomorrow, and I requested if I could get the Alignment Specs and a copy of the completed 70 point Mechanical Inspection prior to delivery.

However, I just got this back from my Sales Advisor:

"Tesla does not provide the inspection reports. For the alignment, they do not do any measurements. All vehicles are test driven before passing inspection and mis-alignment is one of the things they look for."

Anyone else have similar experiences? How am I supposed to know things have been tested. I understand I have the 4 yr/50,000 mile warranty, but I still want to know that things have been checked out and I'm not going to be back in the SC within a week.

Also, will they replace my tires if they are significantly worn down at delivery?

They do measure the tread depth, I’m sure after a certain amount of wear it would trigger the tires to be replaced.

When you go pick your car up, double check everything.

After getting home I noticed that the silver part over the drivers side marker was bent. The lumbar support button from the passenger seat was completely missing.

I replied to your PM and I’ll get that to you as soon as I get home.

Thanks so much for sending that over! The drivers side marker? What exactly is that? I have a 60 point checklist I'm going to go through tomorrow and hopefully they will let me create a Due Bill form at the SC during delivery

Absolutely create a Due Bill if you find anything wrong. And have them give you a copy on the spot.

The Delivery Specialist(?) owed me a second remote and said he will put it in the system so I can get it from the Service Center.
When I had my appointment 2 weeks later they had no record of it. I had to call him multiple times to get it entered in the system.

During my appointment they measured the tread depth and told me a rear tire was wearing unevenly. I quickly told them that means the alignment is off and since I just got this car shouldn't they fix it for free. And they did.

Are we supposed to get 2 key fobs? I just took delivery of a CPO 2015 Model S and only received one key fob.

Sorry for the newbish question but what's a due bill?

Dictionary.com says:

"a brief written acknowledgment of indebtedness, not payable to order."

That means when you pick up the car, there's only 1 fob, then the "due bill" should document that Tesla owes you a second fob.

If Tesla agrees to fix a dent on your bumper but it needs to order another bumper, that should be documented in a "due bill".

You can bring that due bill to a Service Center to have them correct whatever was wrong.

Ahh cool. I wonder if anyone has success in a due bill on dents not zoomed in on pictures.

Tesla has been honoring Due Bill for free with no hassles.

The hassles maybe how to convince on a CPO that they need to fix something like a paint scratch and place it on a Due Bill. They might argue that the scratch is too small to be worthy of a Due Bill.

Just for comparison, call any other premium car dealer about a CPO they have for sale and they will give you all the following just for asking:
  • Detailed CPO inspection report
  • A report of everything done to fix what they found during the CPO inspection.
  • They will do the next service due so if that calls for an alignment, they will do that.
  • High resolution photos to document the car is in great shape.
  • Invitation for a personal inspection and test drive.
  • Not only do they deliver a used car in pretty much pristine shape, many even offer a few days to a week to bring the car back and get all your money if you don't love the car.
None of this is obviously possible for Tesla, because "they do things differently."

Now that you know they don't really have any standards, it's on you to check everything. If anything is not what it should be, be ready to refuse delivery and ask for your money back and try again.

Isn't it odd they don't even let you test drive the car before purchase so you can check for things like alignment and rattles? BTW they recently excluded squeaks or rattles from the CPO warranty so make sure you don't end up with a car with squeaks and rattles they won't fix if you are sensitive to squeaks and rattles.

Yes 2 Fobs.

I called the delivery center today and told them I only received one key fob to which I was told the Model S only comes with one key fob. I mentioned folks have received two key fobs with their Model S so he checked with his manager but the answer was the same, it only comes with one key fob.

Can anyone else confirm how many key fobs they received with their CPO Model S? I wonder if perhaps you just got lucky ;) or the person I spoke with and his manager were misinformed.

...it only comes with one key fob...

I bought new 2012 Model S, 2017 Model X that came with 2 fobs each.

I bought new 2018 Model 3 that came with 2 key cards.

When I traded in my 2012 Model S, Tesla reminded me to make sure to bring both 2 fobs in. When I showed up in person, they also specifically wanted 2 fobs, not 1.

Perhaps, Tesla wants to keep one for themselves so they can repossess your car more easily?

That's complete bullshit. Tesla customer service and service has a reputation of pushing BS on customers to cover up their deficiencies. 'that's within spec' 'it will be fixed on next firmware,' 'that battery degradation is normal,' 'there's nothing wrong with your car that just dies randomly.'

Push harder, talk to a supervisor. Get what you paid for.
