I don't like Musk's politics or tweets. Apart from anything else, they show poor judgement and may well be part of a concerning trend towards damaging Tesla's brand in the long term (although we don't have enough data to conclusively say it has hurt Tesla). However, I think/hope it's possible to fundamentally disagree with someone's politics and still respect them and admire their competence.
That said, people still buy Nestle products. People still watch the football in Qatar. People still use Twitter, even if it's just to moan about Musk. People buy clothes made by Bangladeshi children. People still fly on pointless trips despite climate change. People still buy cars from companies that literally used slave labour 80 years ago and have more recently killed people by cheating their emissions tests.
Many people who are loudly refusing to buy a Tesla weren't in a position to buy one anyway. They'll soon move on to complaining about another company that has somehow offended them. I guess it's good to have a hobby.
None of this excuses Musk — but I think it's important to remember that in the real world, most people don't care about anything beyond their immediate sphere and have extremely short memories regarding a company's behaviour.
I'm holding onto my shares.
