Well, this is promising. Small uptick in Robinhood users buying while the stock dips.

As an aside from today's market action (a correction which I think we all knew was inevitable at some point), and since I've been greatly disappointed with the terribly uninformative way in which the various coronavirus data pages have presented the information, I decided to generate my own graphs trying to get a sense of how effective the containment efforts for the virus have been - that is, new cases by location on each day.

Caveat 1: I had to remove all "zero" values because the vast majority of them were cases where a particular data source didn't update between datasets. But it's possible that in some of the low incidence rate areas, there were legitimate cases of zero new cases diagnosed that the graph leaves out.

Caveat 2: These graphs plot total cases, but cases per capita might be a more informative metric.

It's really clear from this how much this is very much a "Wuhan coronavirus" problem at present, and how China has effectively - thusfar at least - managed to contain it in that province (Hubei). It's tried to break out in Zhejiang and Guangdong, but each time the number of cases has gone back down.

That said, they clearly have a lot of work ahead of them in Hubei. I imagine that they're probably focused on compartmentalizing the province and trying to clear it section by section. I also imagine that they'll probably start letting life get back to normal in other provinces, but dialing the pressure back up whenever / wherever an outbreak springs up - compartmentalization rather than broad, sweeping actions.

Just my take, from looking at the data.

(For what it matters: Shanghai borders Zhejiang and Jiangxi)

ED: I just realized that the base spreadsheet I was generating these from only goes up to 2 February :Þ If anyone has a spreadsheet of more recent data, let me know.

I entered at about 360, and then rode it down to 179. This is nothing. :cool:
I did much worse. Bought initially at 140, then some more in the 300s, then tripled my stake by buying at 405 - (yes I swallowed the $420 funding secured tweet hook, line and sinker). This gave a cost basis of 374 which I rode all the way down to 179. Thankfully, I never sold a single share! Currently have a lot more shares with overall cost basis around 460. Not planning to sell anytime soon.

I suspect battery day will trigger the next big step up in TSLA price.
I fear that, like autonomy day, the implications will sail right over the heads of Wall St. analysts. Battery chemistry, dry electrodes, energy density, ho-hum. Dramatic specific cost reductions and/or production capacity increases might do it, though.

TBH, I'm actually impressed that the shorts managed to pull that one off with their shenangians yesterday afternoon and this morning. That's one hell of a sell-off, with volume, even after the uptick rule was activated.

Now to see if we recover this week. The uptick rule screws up their manipulations for through Thursday and Friday, but they can still cap it...

From my perspective, this is just a blip on the radar. If I chose a life of fear, I would not be here today. But, to the dismay of all my enemies, I have lived through more T-Boning than the average ~ I was going to say bear; but that is just wrong this morning. My wife once called me out as a broomstick cowboy ~ hard to picture that as a career soldier:eek:

Not one major thing has changed at Tesla, not one. The China Gigafactory will back up an running, at some point. Since I am here and not on the inside of facts as they come across my desk, I cannot honestly say when ~ neither can you ~ you are not Elon.

Get over yourself, have a “why bother latte’” Decaf, w/hemp milk ~ illegal in conservative parts of the country.

If you own Tesla stock, solar batteries, car (Next a CyberTruck), roof, or give the GrandPups stock, or have a Tesla license plate frame around the front plate of your Tacoma, or have ever used the word Tesla more than four times in one day, or have your heart specialist want to see you so he/she can talk about the Tesla CyberTruck. Gd it human, it is a good day ~ it is a good day:D

I’ll be here to tomorrow:eek::D
