So presumably the baseline for factory updates is:
  • Limited to M3 only (Highland but not MY)
    • Shanghai
    • Fremont
    • Not Texas or Berlin
  • Spread the pain across quarters
    • Updates in last ~3 weeks of October
    • Ramp in Q4 and Q1
Maybe Tesla take the opportunity to make minor alterations to S,X an Y lines?

Elon wants to save 1M lives a year and make his shareholders rich.

Here's a simple plan:

- offer FSD/full autonomy to every car/truck maker in the world. It only costs a few K to equip a car with the cameras and HW. We give it to them for free.

- the service is paid for by lowering insurance costs .... (We sell insurance at the normal "elevated" price and make maybe 1K/car per year in lower claims.)

- automobile partners agree to use our insurance services and not compete.

- great deal for the customer. Same total cost, but better product and increased safety.

- great deal for our partners. They get a car they can sell and don't have to solve FSD for themselves.

- great deal for Tesla. 1B customers they can make 1K/year off of for years to come. (1T/year)

This offer does not include Robotaxi. Commercial/TAAS users of FSD/full autonomy would have to pay way more.

This plan solves the dilemma of having a technology that can save countless lives but still wanting to make it affordable to purchase.

I'm missing something here. How are car buyers going to be required to use Tesla auto insurance?

In this spirit I've been wondering for years why Elon is talking about how it is not about making money but saving humanity while this apparently doesn't include saving humans instead of making money.

If FSD will eventually save 100 million lives shouldn't we give away FSD for free to everyone? Or at least charge something that most people would pay. Which is not $15k.

Somehow connecting FSD to your insurance could be the way to get a fair revenue from FSD while still saving lives. If someone is paying $200/month insurance there is probably a way to convince that person to instead pay $250 but you get access to and have to use FSD for all you driving.

There will still be more than enough value in FSD for commercial traffic (be it robocars or semitrucks) to make tens of billions each year.

Excellent summary by Rob Maurer

Big outtake for me is 4680 progress, everything is depending on a successful ramp of those.
For me it's surprising to hear 500k powerwalls installed when only 5k are on PG&E vpp

We offer it everywhere and the car buyer agrees to use it to get FSD turned on.

Taking this logic further, because Tesla FSD is the "driver" in both private and commercial applications there must be included coverage for Tesla while FSD is being used.

In the long run the natural progression would be toward a subscription model being the only one offered and the FSD aspect of the insurance would be included in the subscription cost.

Maximum pain is currently $260 and it looks like we are going to get there eventually. At the beginning of the week I was wondering if they could get the price down $40 or $50 so quickly this time. Apparently they can! 🤷‍♂️
The uptick rule comes into force once TSLA gets below $262.13. So it's unlikely we see $260 today.

Max pain is also likely to move a bit as there's a lot of Calls and Puts being opened and closed. For example there are around 72,000 $270 and $280 Puts that people will be taking profit on, which will move the MM's target price. Although, being a monthly expiry there are a lot of way out of the money options purchased a long time ago that will tend to anchor max pain more than usual.

TSLA PT raised
Future looking bright
Energy GM skyrocketing
CT coming
Factories ramping and new factories going to be announced

All good news besides the 'sandbagged Q3 numbers are going to be less than Q2' rhetoric IMO

Let's all take a moment and imagine if EPS came in at $0.80 and GM were at 16.9% how much more we would be down today :)

I say it is, just for today.

The "idea" is that FSD is self funding in that it reduces accidents enough to pay for itself. The data Tesla has released suggests that even the current Beta reduces accidents dramatically.

As a former head of engineering at several small leading edge product development companies I understand Elon's need to create a separate AI company. The very best engineers want the exciting challenge of working on leading edge tech and also by the way they see startups as a way to get big stock options. Like SpaceX & Tesla there will be cross pollination.
