Teslamate without persistent web connection?

Hi,
My premium connectivity has expired and so I wonder if it’s worth getting Teslamate running on the cloud vs just installing it on my laptop.

Can it get the data when it boots or does it need to be connected in real time?

It needs to be connected in real time. I try not to reboot the Raspberry Pi that I run it on when the cars are being driven or charged to avoid losing data. I'm not getting what the connection is to having premium connectivity though.
