This whole wheel alignment sounds crazy to me. Shouldn't vehicles come with optimal alignment from the factory, (with stock tires and rims non-the-less)??

One would think that. But Tesla does not align vehicles as they come out of the factory. Manufacturing tolerances are close enough, that mostly they're pretty close, but not necessarily perfect. Don't forget they are loaded on a train or truck (or both) for delivery, which can cause problems. It is best if the alignment happens as part of there delivery process. Drive it, and carefully check it for alignment errors, if there are any open service ticket and request an alignment. I am sure it is a situation, where if only 20% of cars are delivered, out of whack, they will align them upon request. Easier than aligning 100% of them, when 80% do not need it.
