The DEA has essentially confirmed that Hansen's story about drug trafficking can't be true. The DEA said it would not share that kind of information outside of law enforcement.
But the DEA said it wouldn’t have notified Tesla of any such investigation.

It's also worth doing some back of the envelope math around how much raw materials he claims were stolen. By my math, if half of the $37 million in stolen materials were copper, that would be something in the ballpark of 77 full semi truck loads. If the Gigafactory has such a sophisticated spying operation, how could thieves take 3,000 tons of copper from under their noses?
In any sufficiently large group of people, there's going to be somebody selling drugs. I don't know what anybody would be surprised by that. That's a whole lot different than saying that the factory (i.e. company) is involved.
