What does being a private investor even mean? Can you still buy and sell shares freely? How is that different than the regular stock market?

I think we have to wait to hear more details... Offhand, I'm guessing Tesla could essentially manage its own stock market, providing a console through which to buy/sell private shares, but presumably without any of the more exotic share lending and such?

Well, I dumped all my options and got my position into 100% stock just in time for the halt... I do appreciate that Elon would take shareholders with him into the private company. This makes things interesting. No more getting rich quick off short term options bets though.
