Updating Software Question

I just updated the software on my Model Y.

Why would it update to 2020.40.3 when 2020.40.7 is supposedly available?

Tesla pushes updates to cars at different intervals. It seems like different cars are running a whole range of firmware builds at any given time.

Anybody know why a "software update" makes mechanical noise: motors, solenoids. And the lights flash in weird patterns.

Software alone would be digital, quiet. What's happening during an update download?
