Wireless charging in Model S

Calling all iSheep who ordered the iPhoneX.

How do you setup wireless charging in Model S, and how fast will it charge? Even the "plugged in charging" in S is hella slow, is wireless charging even practical?

From what I’ve read, Apple uses the QI standard which is typically 1A, so pretty much the same as the Tesla USB ports. A good 12v adapter will put out 2.1A or so. Not to impressive for wireless in my book. Maybe there will be an update to the standard.

Welcome iPhone users.
I've been using QI adapters in my Tesla for three years now with my Android phones.
Just plug them into the USB ports. I've used several over the years. The "3 coil" chargers are less sensitive to correct placement. Amazon has lots of these. (The "quick/fast chargers" only work with Samsung phones so not necessary for iPhone.)

I don't pay attention to charging speed. I just set the phone down on the pad while I'm in the car and it always stays charged.
I've found the flat pads work best. The phones tend to come off the angled stands with quick acceleration which I sometimes do

I will work with a non-metal case although the thickness matters. The thicker the case, the greater the distance from the coils. For most cases it's not an issue.

Get a pad with a rubber top (or magnets) and they won't slip around.

Of course not, Qi charging lines up magnetically and, in the process, magnetically attaches your phone to the charger.

Actually, no. You need real magnets.
The some charging pads have magnets which pair with magnets or metal in the phone to attach to the charger. (I don't know if the iPhone has magnets or metal or not.)

I wonder if we can setup a wireless charging mat under the slider door for the center console. I tend to leave my phone on there often.

Any ideas if these will work with an Otterbox commuter case on an iPhone X? My wife drops her phone a lot and we made a deal that she could only get an X if she agreed to the bigger case

I just bought this: Topfit Wireless Charger Center Container Storage Tray and I love it!
Fit is perfect so it doesn't move and it has a lined backside so it doesn't scratch the center console and the Tesla OEM removable cupholders can stay in place using this tray.

Yeah, I still do.
Granted, it's not the fastest charger but it does a good job charging my Galaxy S10+. I find the quality of the materials to be quite good, as I thought it would scratch the center console side walls. I'm not sure, but I guess you could replace the charging coils or the 12V plug for a higher output one.

If you plug it directly into any of the two USB ports, it would be nearly impossible to use, due to the low amperage output of such ports.
