Hmmm. That's what they said about Tesla selling 100k vehicles per year a few years ago. Fantasy becomes reality pretty easily these days. ;)

The difference is of course being that Tesla actually made a compelling EV. The others not so much.

Biggest battery production in the world, more than the rest combined: Tesla. Fastest charging network spreading across the globe like wildfire: Tesla. Most twitter followers of any car car mfging CEO: Elon Musk. Most interview video views of any car mfging CEO: Elon Musk, Elon Musk and Elon Musk. Most talked about and lusted after cars by younger generation: Tesla. Etc...,etc...

That’s not hope. That’s a fantasy.
In 10 years? Hm.. Humans are remarkably inventive once proper capital is channeled. electric cars are said to have only 40% assembly complexity vs ice. Remember those IBM at pcs going for like 7k apiece (which is now nore like 20k perhaps) with 64mb of ram? We are living in the IBM XT era of electric cars. Their batteries are at the same point ram chips were in 80s. 10 years is a long time these days. Today IBM is not even a pc brand anymore.

Here’s the thing, it’s been almost SEVEN years now since Model S hit the streets. SEVEN. *They’ve* been talking about Tesla Killer, competition blah, blah, blah for SEVEN years! Just where the heck is it? Where?

In the scheme of things *they* haven’t even started. No, they haven’t. New Merc, DOA. It doesn’t even have Model S 2012 specs. The Bolt GM was so happy to rush to market to beat Tesla is a flop - look at the sales number decline. They sold a few in the beginning while people waited for the 3. And the 3 beats the Bolt on every metric.

Humans are inventive. Legacy OEMs? Pfft! In ten years I expect them to be even further behind Tesla and a couple of them going bye-bye as Tesla destroys them with Y, semi and pickup. Tesla did 3 models in 7 years. Now Elon wants to do multiple models at a time. Hammer down for Tesla. OEMs just spinning their wheels. The Merc has a grill!!!! And barely 200 miles EPA with an 80 battery and no fast charging network. Ahahaha!

From zillion threads, here is the summary from Tesla fans...
  • Tesla makes the best EV - So put up with all the crap and inabilities on their part..doesn't matter how ridiculous it is or the other alternative is walk away if you don't like
  • Elon is genius - So put up with him no matter what he do/does... Wall street is for Tesla and not the other way around
These type of arguments have some merit but going to kill Tesla when there is enough mass out there to reach the tipping point "enough is enough". Fans alone can't keep the lights on beyond this point and Tesla needs 250K folks to support their products to survive.

Many brands vanished when they didn't innovate and equally many bite the dust when they didn't give a $hit about their customers and customer service. Hope Tesla doesn't fall into this by quickly correcting their mistakes as they grow.

Having a great EV is not a need or must for everyone and it is just a wish/want for the vast majority.. so folks wont compromise too much in the long run. While Tesla is OK for time being with respect to competition but someone will come up with something soon to make a dent if not to kill.

This post has me worried, considering I'm supposed to pick up in the Westmont location tomorrow. I haven't had high expectations of the delivery actually happening since I got the first call from the DS, but this experience you've shared is keeping my expectations in line. I'm still going to go there tomorrow, at least to see the models they do have, but I checked my VIN on the UR transport site and there's no results, and no one over the phone actually said the car is sitting in Westmont waiting.

I don't predict. I hope. Monopolies are never good for the end consumer. And like i said, Elon hopes the same. :) I hope in 10 years i can pick up a corolla from a lot accross the town for 15k that can charge in 10 minutes and go 300 miles, and leave supercars (or space ships, for that matter) to Elon.
I PREDICT that in 10 years cars will be either charging while driving on some major highways or in your garage with embedded wireless charging (like Smartphones), you will have endless miles with this system, but "no", that $15K car will be much more expensive through inflation and insane "trade wars." And Elon may very well be putting a man on Mars (himself?) by then.
*(you are not fantisizing big enough)

Toyota is the biggest footdragger in the transition to alternative energy cars, despite their ill-conceived HFC Mirai, when they could have been a leader in the rEVolution. They continue to lose market share and it will get worse when Tesla and other makers release viable BEV-SUVs. I PREDICT Toyota is whistling in the graveyard right now.

Elon, you really should not hide behind the avatar of a very cute kitten using the name of the South African gold coin. Come out and show yourself. We all know it is you. ;)

Convenient of you to leave China out of the discussion.

I would recommend calling before you leave just to make sure everything is in order.

Maybe it will still be tesla. i meant 'corolla' with a small 'c'. as an abstract mass-produced, well understood platform which is also cheap to produce, without any brand attribution. So maybe that will be Tesla. And maybe it even will be the model Y. I will be more than happy if it is. I have always supported the official Tesla vision statement, it sounds true to me, and for that they deserve to win perhaps more than others.

But it has to be an easily affordable and available commodity. In that sense i don't particularly care who takes that place. Otherwise, the sustainable transportation is a dream. I don't need even half the car model 3 is. I don't think i contradict Tesla's vision too much in that. I just need a car that has a freedom of mobility to the degree current ICE had, for emergencies, out of state business, and leisure. Unfortunately, current Tesla situation is that it is neither "affordable" in commodity sense, nor is it even as easily available. Otherwise we wouldn't have had a thread like this.

Well said :)

It looks like Ford took old nintendo gameboy screens from the 1990's and used them in their 2018 Ford F-150's infotainment units

Call them today and ask if the car is onsite and ready for delivery. There were posts like this back in may when I picked up my car, and I called the Fremont Delivery Center and they were able to check and confirm my car was ready.

I'm in a worse situation, having had terrible communication with the delivery team. I've had my deliver canceled twice on me on 8/8 and 8/30. The first time I was canceled 45 minutes before delivery, the 2nd time 2 days. The worst part of the 2nd event? They canceled on my after my bank had already cut the check and mailed it out. So I've been paying interest on for a car I haven't even seen yet for the past 2 weeks for > $75k loan (big loan for gap assurance protection). Already made the 1st month payment too.

So yeah, they're still disorganized as hell. As for me, I will love my car when I get it, I can't honestly recommend them to other people without the huge disclaimer that you may have issues with deliveries, but hell I'll still recommend the car to anyone who has the smallest interest in it.
I'm not happy either. My first 3 emails about my upcoming delivery were from 3 different people. I have been trying to have my wife removed from the registration to simplify the loan hunting process, have emailed two people one of which I found out to be my delivery specialist only by calling tesla and waiting on hold for 20 minutes, only to have them tell me to email my delivery specialist to have this changed. I got an email response saying that they will contact me shortly before delivery to provide a vin and get an actual loan approval. I'm not sure how much time "shortly is" because I'm getting the car on a Sunday when banks are closed.... They did not even mention removing my wife from the registration. Pretty sure my delivery specialist is just a bot sending out canned responses to emails. Why telsa blocks you from editing your details on their website in the first place is beyond me. I'm 80% sure at this point I won't be able to pickup my car on the delivery date, because of some issue or another. It's like they don't want me to be able to pay for the car when I show up.

Hell right now I don't even know how much I need to take out a loan for because the estimate cost is no longer showing on the website.

Gave them a call, Westmont location was super busy. Ended up calling the DS, and confirmed that the car will NOT be there until Saturday, and rescheduled the appointment for Monday evening (all Saturday appointment slots are gone already). Sounding a bit more promising this time, but I'll confirm again Monday morning lol

In truth, I am getting rather frustrated with the delivery experience.

Next week was supposed to be the second delivery attempt (first was 8/29) and my ISA assured me that she would reach out if there were changes. She also apparently messed up with the first delivery attempt. Things had been quiet recently, so I reached out last and got an auto response saying she was on vacation until this Friday (about two weeks). I reached out to our local delivery center via e-mail to check in and received a response informing me that they could not give me any further information regarding a confirmation for delivery.

Today, I just happened to be in the Richmond area for an appointment and stopped by the Tesla location to see if they could provide any insight into the situation. I spoke with a staff member there and they were, in fact, able to look up the information regarding the estimated timeframe. I was informed of 9/21 or 9/22 as potential dates for pickup and it seemed they had that information for some time.

With that in mind, I was curious as to why I did not receive any notification regarding an updated timeframe for delivery? I understand that they are on vacation until Friday, but it's hard to believe that there is not another vehicle delivery advisor that could have forwarded such information. If I did not happen to be in the area and swing by the location, I would have received about the same level of notice as I did for the previous delivery delay (three days or so).

It is unbelievable to me that it is this disorganized. I've paid Tesla 18.5k and have the check from my bank. I believe in the mission, but they have to do better than this. I reserved on day one for an RWD car with EAP. Some people here are getting their car in fourteen days with new orders...

I stopped by the Costa Mesa store today, and the employees there seemed a bit loss and new although very friendly. Now I was only there for about 30 minutes to try to get further information on my order (for which they've already received $79.5k of....) but ended up with a personal email for a delivery adviser so we'll go from there. I also believe in the mission, but its been almost 2 months of this disorganization from the first reports, so I'm hoping the new organization figures this out soon.
