Tesla playing games on FSD upgrade 2018 Model 3 FSD?

I have a 2018 Model 3. I purchased the enhanced auto pilot option at that time for $5k or something like that.

I have been comtemplating a FSD upgrade but was put off by cost/benefit when the cost to upgrade was $6k over EAP ($12k total). I wanted to subscribe but Tesla app would show up that a $1000 comptuer upgrade was required. The computer version shown in my dashboard is 2.5 I felt that was a better direction to go rather than buy for $6k. we are are not likely to keep this car too far beyond the break even point of ~ 4 years (99/mo * 50 months = ~ $5000 plus the $1000 for FSD computer upgrade = $6000 purchase price).

But with the news today that FSD is $8k, the option to upgrade to FSD became $2k. I decided to purchase considering the cost of FSD computer was previously $1000.

Now Tesla doesn't even require us to upgrade the computer. So to me it feels like they were fooling with me when I wanted to subscribe. When I pay $1000 as one time fee for the subscription, I'm much likely to continue vs. if the subscription was just $99/mo without any initial buy-in.

So I'm curious if a FSD computer upgrade is required or Tesla was trying to fool me.

New owner of 2016 Model X here, How can I Upgrade 60D Battery to 75D.

Hey Guys,

New Owner here of a used 2016 Model X 60D. I've been reading old threads on upgrading Battery to 75D. I have seen that first it was a purchase option (I no longer find it) and I've read that Tesla pushed update and they were all 75D. I currently get 170 on a full charge which leads me to believe its is still on 60d, Dashboard and Vehicle info also say 60D, Yet under my specs in the app I can see the 75D "Spec". Does this mean is upgradable? Or how Can I go upon upgrading? Will I loose Free Supercharging if I upgrade? Any help or past experiences would be great. Thanks.

How can I make the “home” location more accurate

I live on a corner house. I have entered my address as the home location. When I am navigating to my house, the car navigates to the street that is on the side of my house not the front of my house. Is there anyway to set the home location as my driveway or the street that the front of my house is on .

Lost “Recent” Dashcam Footage

Hello everyone,

I got into an accident from someone merging into my lane. Pulled over, watched the footage to see if it was saved or not. Drove home and tried to look for it the second time and it was not there. I panicked and took the Tesla flash drive inside the house to see if I could pull up the footage. Opened my laptop, scoured through all the footage files of the flash drive and was not there. I used the “Disk Drill” application and the file was not there. I called Tesla services, scoured online, forums, I truly am desperate to get this footage for insurance purposes otherwise the person who hit me will get away from this accident.

Dashcam is set to Auto, I figured if I was able to watch the footage inside the car, I wouldn’t have an issue watching it on my laptop, boy did that cost me.

Red towing indicator after unhooking

Hi, i have successfully towed a horsebox with my model y for a while now but this morning whilst driving to work noticed the red caravan indicator showing on screen. I had unhooked last night so was not towing this morning so nothing connected. Its usually a blue indicator that displays whilst towing and then goes out when the load is unhooked so was wondering what is causing this.
I got into work and did a soft reset but its still showing on screen.
Do you think i will have to reconnect and then disconnect to reset the red towing warning symbol??

Any help would be appreciated. By the way towing is amazing, yes it uses about twice the battery but then my old diesel consumpion was double as well!!

Thanks

Looking for shop to install shocks in Spokane WA

I have decided to get the Tein EnduraPro Plus shocks for my 2022 M3 LR. I am not confident I can do the work myself so I need someone I can trust to install these and adjust them per the manufacturer's instructions. Does anyone have any recommendations, or how I might go about finding a trustworthy mechanic in this area?

Weird whining noise model s

Hi, I got this weird whining noise at approximately 30-60km/h. Most of the time is when I just start driving for a few min and then later it goes away. It’s coming from the front of the car and you also can clearly hear it outside of the car. Does anyone know what makes this sound? My thoughts is the heat pump or cooling but I’m not sure. ( don’t mind the squashing noise from the phone lol)

Can't open Frunk from screen

Recent software updates have seemingly disabled Frunk open from the screen. (Both the screen that pops up when the car is in Park and the menu screen.)
I used to be able to do this. Now when I tap/press the Frunk, nothing happens. I can open the trunk but not the Frunk.
Now, I have to use the app to open the Frunk.

Any idea what is going on here?

Battery Charging routine

I am a very new owner of a 2019 Tesla 3. The previous owner told me charge when it gets down to about 20% and only to 80%. I have been on several forums and there seems to be a belief by many but not all that it should be charged daily to the 80% limit. I only use it around town so my usage is 30% + or -.
I don't know what to do. Please advise.
Thanks

  • Question
How do I turn the screen back on after it times out?

After sitting in my Model 3 for about 30 minutes or so (without engaging with the screen), the screen will turn off but the car is still on. For example, pressing the mic button still makes a beep noise or the climate control stays on if it set it to stay on.

The only way I have figured out how to wake the screen is to either receive an incoming call to my connected phone, to reset the screen by holding down both steering wheel buttons, or to crack the door open.

Resetting the screen takes forever. Incoming calls obviously isn't a good fix. Cracking the door just seems tacky and like Tesla had to make a better screen wake protocol that I'm just not getting. I suspect there is a simple solution to this, but I can't find it anywhere I have looked. Please lmk if you know of a simpler way.

Can I extend my current lease even after agreeing to lease a new Tesla?

Hello! I'm new to this forum. I originally leased a Tesla Model 3 Performance in June 2021. A month ago I wanted to lease the new 2024 option as my lease is ending. I ordered my configuration and went in the Tesla app to say that I wanted to return my existing leased vehicle when I took delivery of my new Tesla. I have since changed my mind and would like extend my existing lease. Can I do that? I've reached out to Tesla Finance via phone (it just told me to leave a voicemail and then wouldn't allow me to leave a message) via email (which wasn't responded to) and by Chat (which the person who chatted with me said they would have the leasing department contact me...and that I should email them as well which I had done already). I'm thinking the first thing I would need to do is cancel my order for my new Tesla (the expected delivery is sometime in June so it's not too late), but then how do I request to extend my lease so I don't end up needing to return my existing car? Thanks for any assistance!

Question about your front AC vent direction?

I've noticed that I can't stop the AC from freezing my hands while I'm holding the steering wheel.
Even with the vent set as high up as it will go, it's still hitting the bottom of the steering wheel. It never gets as high as hitting the top of the steering wheel or chest height.
Splitting the airflow seems kinda work, but nowhere near as effective as my old 2018 Model 3.
Has anyone else noticed this?
If it's just my car I'll book a service call.
It's a Model Y LR from Austin delivered in February

Solar panels cancelled due to concern over my roof's strength - experiences with this?

Was primed to purchase Tesla solar panels for my 1913 craftsman style home, but after inspection Tesla cancelled. Aggravatingly, Tesla was very reluctant to say why - after much effort, a supervisor explained that there were concerns that the roof wouldn't be sturdy enough to support them. I was told that if I could have a structural engineer certify that the roof could hold at least 3 pounds per square foot Tesla might reconsider. Admittedly, the rafters visible in the attic are farther apart than they would be in modern construction. But I'm 200 pounds and walk around on the roof regularly; the Tesla site inspector was on the roof, too. Neither of us fell through, so I'm pretty sure the roof can withstand 3 pounds/sq. ft.

The rub is this - I can't seem to find a structural engineer willing to do calcs for my roof for less than $3,500. Obviously, if the roof is found sturdy enough pursuant to that review it might be worth the money to proceed, even though the expense would be wasted money. But if the roof is found to not be able to meet the Tesla standard, that money would be completely wasted. Structural engineer could also give advice on whether and how roof structure could be strengthened if it's a close call, but that would be even more money, both for the plan and for whatever construction would be called for. That would probably make installing solar financially unfeasible.

So the question: Has anyone gotten this response from Tesla solar before, and were they really willing to go forward if you provided proof that your roof was strong enough?
