Prep for Cross-Country Shipping

Hi, everyone! I can't really find a thread on this, so I figured I'd just post and ask. 🤷‍♂️

My family and I are moving from Utah to Texas for a job opportunity and we're able to ship our cars due to a generous relocation package. I already have a booking with SGT Auto and they are planning to pick up our 2022 AWD LR M3 this Monday. Is there anything I should do in order to prepare it for the journey? Should I charge it to 100%? Should I keep sentry mode on? Will I need to show them how to put it into transport mode? Should I fold the mirrors?

I've never done this before and have only had the car for about 3 months and wanna do my best to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Thanks in advance! Love this car and love this community. 🤘

  • Question
storage

I will be leaving my 2023 Model Y in my garage in Florida for the 6 summer months with only 110VAC supplied. What is the best Battery SOC to set? What should I do about the auto overheat function? What is the preferred way to prevent tire flat spots after long storage? Should I jack it up to take the weight off the tires? Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any advice, Ken

2020 or 2021 model 3 payload/scrapping bottom and bike rack question

Good morning everyone, new subscriber here :)

I read the post by a subscriber in regards to being overloaded in his model Y with passengers and baggage. These are situations that happen once in a while. I wanted to confirm the same situation on a possible 2020/2021 model 3 long range awd I am looking at buying in the short future.

I had a 2019 ioniq plugin with a payload capacity of 820lbs so basically like a model 3 long range awd. I carry 4 people, 3 suitcases and a cooler that comes out to about 850/860 lbs, so just slightly above the limit about once a month... In my ioniq I would scrape the bottom when going over uneven roads on my way to the cottage (1or 2 times but very lightly). I could slow down of course :)

I believe the suspension of the model 3 is stiffer so:
would that help in minimizing the bottom scrapping and would that affect the battery warranty if Tesla seems some scrapping in the bottom of the car?

I would also install an hidden hitch for a bike rack. Would Tesla see that as an issue and cancel the warranty as they would not know what I would be doing with it? I read in the manual that for the bike rack (need space for an electric bike and 2 regular bikes) you need to do some calculations for weight location of the rack and bikes.... Is this all necessary or JUST put the bikes on and drive ?

Thank you everyone for your feedback as you guys actually drive these cars. Have a great day.

Tesla X - suspension issue

Hello members- As my steering wheel not centered. Took my X for alignment. The shop told me they are not able to perform alignment due to rear toe is off. I emailed Tesla service as it’s still under warranty. They sent me an estimate for $577. I thought suspension is covered under warranty? I never did any kind of modifications to the suspension. Car has around 33k miles. Please let me know your thoughts. Kind regards

Tesla App Misidentifying Car Charging as Home Usage

Problem: Car charging frequently "drops out" of the app, resulting in a corresponding spike in home usage. This will happen fairly consistently during scheduled charging sessions, where the first hour or two of charging shows correctly, and then the latter part of the charge session showing as home usage. It happens consistently during Solar charging sessions as well. Car charges normally, so this is just a 'cosmetic' issue, but I would like to have my data recorded correctly. The car shows the correct power usage on the front Energy page, even while this issue is occurring.
Confusingly, sometimes I will go back to days I remember this issue being present, and the data will be correct again, so it seems like it's some kind of algorithmic thing. I've actually seen this reassignment of data happen in real time.

Compounding factors: I use the ChargeHQ app to track excess solar and funnel that to the appropriate areas (I don't use Tesla's built in CoS because it doesn't work consistently enough, in my experience). I additionally have Google Fiber internet, though I don't know if that's the issue.

Theories: 1: Weak wifi connection (my routers aren't super powerful). 2: ChargeHQ doesn't play nice with CoS or the Tesla Wall Connector, once it's hooked into the App.

Anyone else have this issue or hear of it happening? Again, this is not really a problem, more of a first-of-the-first-world-problem. But it still bugs me to no end :)

  • Question
Cybertruck Cabin noises - fan and then also upper center console with gear shifter?

When I start up my CT in the morning, very often there's a very obvious clicking sound coming from the vents/fan (both heat or A/C). I turn it off and it stops. If I keep it on, it generally stops in about an hour, then it's often good for the rest of the day. This is the only pattern I've found so far. It sucks because Tesla explicitly says, if there's a noise that you're bringing your car in for repair, and the noise is not present during your appointment, there's nothing they can do, which is understandable. So I've been trying to keep the fan off, and then turn it on mid-day, so I can replicate the issue when I bring it in to Tesla... Then today, I found the center console on the windshield with the gear shift and hazard button started making a similar clicking sound, not as loud and it stopped in under 5 minutes. Anyway, thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone else is having these issues?

  • Question
Do i get a spec sheet when i test drive a Tesla?

Hello everybody!

I'm new here, so i hope im posting this in the correct forum 😅

I'm currently working on a task for Copenhagen School of Design and Technology, and have to come up with a way to reinvent spec sheets for electrical cars.
So I investigated how Tesla handles their spec sheets and unfortunately couldn't find any information about it. Is there anyone here who can answer whether you get an A4 paper with specs (like other brands) when test driving the car, or if it's all online?

In advance, thank you 😊

Update 2023.44.30.14 Issue

My 2018 M3 Mid Range keeps receiving the same software update. When I click on 'install', it gets stuck at 10% for hours. After resetting it using the wheel buttons, the update doesn't complete, and the system keeps prompting me to install the same version. I submitted a support ticket, and they removed the update more than once, but after 24 hours, the same version, 2023.44.30.14, reappeared without downloading. When I try to install it again, it starts at 10% and gets stuck. The car continues to display 'Software Update Required', and in service mode, I see two alerts for 'APS Mismatch Version'. is there any solutions

  • Question
Tesla playing games on FSD upgrade 2018 Model 3 FSD?

I have a 2018 Model 3. I purchased the enhanced auto pilot option at that time for $5k or something like that.

I have been comtemplating a FSD upgrade but was put off by cost/benefit when the cost to upgrade was $6k over EAP ($12k total). I wanted to subscribe but Tesla app would show up that a $1000 comptuer upgrade was required. The computer version shown in my dashboard is 2.5 I felt that was a better direction to go rather than buy for $6k. we are are not likely to keep this car too far beyond the break even point of ~ 4 years (99/mo * 50 months = ~ $5000 plus the $1000 for FSD computer upgrade = $6000 purchase price).

But with the news today that FSD is $8k, the option to upgrade to FSD became $2k. I decided to purchase considering the cost of FSD computer was previously $1000.

Now Tesla doesn't even require us to upgrade the computer. So to me it feels like they were fooling with me when I wanted to subscribe. When I pay $1000 as one time fee for the subscription, I'm much likely to continue vs. if the subscription was just $99/mo without any initial buy-in.

So I'm curious if a FSD computer upgrade is required or Tesla was trying to fool me.

New owner of 2016 Model X here, How can I Upgrade 60D Battery to 75D.

Hey Guys,

New Owner here of a used 2016 Model X 60D. I've been reading old threads on upgrading Battery to 75D. I have seen that first it was a purchase option (I no longer find it) and I've read that Tesla pushed update and they were all 75D. I currently get 170 on a full charge which leads me to believe its is still on 60d, Dashboard and Vehicle info also say 60D, Yet under my specs in the app I can see the 75D "Spec". Does this mean is upgradable? Or how Can I go upon upgrading? Will I loose Free Supercharging if I upgrade? Any help or past experiences would be great. Thanks.

How can I make the “home” location more accurate

I live on a corner house. I have entered my address as the home location. When I am navigating to my house, the car navigates to the street that is on the side of my house not the front of my house. Is there anyway to set the home location as my driveway or the street that the front of my house is on .

Lost “Recent” Dashcam Footage

Hello everyone,

I got into an accident from someone merging into my lane. Pulled over, watched the footage to see if it was saved or not. Drove home and tried to look for it the second time and it was not there. I panicked and took the Tesla flash drive inside the house to see if I could pull up the footage. Opened my laptop, scoured through all the footage files of the flash drive and was not there. I used the “Disk Drill” application and the file was not there. I called Tesla services, scoured online, forums, I truly am desperate to get this footage for insurance purposes otherwise the person who hit me will get away from this accident.

Dashcam is set to Auto, I figured if I was able to watch the footage inside the car, I wouldn’t have an issue watching it on my laptop, boy did that cost me.

Red towing indicator after unhooking

Hi, i have successfully towed a horsebox with my model y for a while now but this morning whilst driving to work noticed the red caravan indicator showing on screen. I had unhooked last night so was not towing this morning so nothing connected. Its usually a blue indicator that displays whilst towing and then goes out when the load is unhooked so was wondering what is causing this.
I got into work and did a soft reset but its still showing on screen.
Do you think i will have to reconnect and then disconnect to reset the red towing warning symbol??

Any help would be appreciated. By the way towing is amazing, yes it uses about twice the battery but then my old diesel consumpion was double as well!!

Thanks

Looking for shop to install shocks in Spokane WA

I have decided to get the Tein EnduraPro Plus shocks for my 2022 M3 LR. I am not confident I can do the work myself so I need someone I can trust to install these and adjust them per the manufacturer's instructions. Does anyone have any recommendations, or how I might go about finding a trustworthy mechanic in this area?

Weird whining noise model s

Hi, I got this weird whining noise at approximately 30-60km/h. Most of the time is when I just start driving for a few min and then later it goes away. It’s coming from the front of the car and you also can clearly hear it outside of the car. Does anyone know what makes this sound? My thoughts is the heat pump or cooling but I’m not sure. ( don’t mind the squashing noise from the phone lol)
