How much power from 12 V power outlet?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Model S has a regular 12V Lead-acid battery (which Roadster does not), which should buffer most noise from an inverter.

    Model S Cold weather testing

Due to untimely cuts in the video right in the middle of a turn (or lateral transition), one can only assume that the car spun out right after those cuts... otherwise the full turns would have been shown.

    Suggested Supercharger Locations

Wh/mile usage chart is incorrect for 60kWh... Shouldn't it be 261Wh/mile at 55mph?

Is 4.4 seconds vs 5.6 seconds alone worth $10k?

They will both have 245 (mm) width tires. That equates to around 9.6". I guess different brands may vary slightly.

Is 4.4 seconds vs 5.6 seconds alone worth $10k?

The widths of stock tires for 19" rims and 21" rims are going to be exactly the same, so the only factor for contact patch will be the inflation pressure.

It's Spring! Where's the Design Studio?

It does not bother me too much, but this is another "over-promise and under-deliver" from Tesla. Even though this should not affect the timeline of the Model S, it reflects negatively on the company. This is not the first time they slipped without any feedback. There was an interview that was...

    Umc 2.0

Looks like there is a small pin for communicating the type of plug to the UMC. There may be something as simple as a resistor between this pin and the ground. Different resistance would correspond to different types of plugs. Just a guess.

Accident/flat tires and placement of the car jack

Some new cars have TPMS without use of in-wheel sensors. The system monitors the difference in rotation of the wheels when the steering wheel is straight and reports a warning when a wheel is spinning faster than others. I wonder how Tesla will implement it in the Model S?

    Model S specs

Has anyone looked at the the dimensions of the 19" tires on the betas? I couldn't find any posts mentioning it.

World Map of Model S Reservation Holders

I'd also like to know who has S442, which is the closest reservation to me

Will Model S be your only car?

We'll keep our diesel Golf for long trips. 650 mile range on a 14 gallon tank (YMMV).

    Aero wheels

The greatest loss of energy in airplanes is drag, so aerodynamics are very important. In the Bentley, the loss of energy due to the inefficient large-displacement ICE is much greater than the loss due to drag. Even though the improvement from aero wheels in the Bentley would be similar as in a...

    Aero wheels

Aero wheels will not noticeably improve fuel economy on such an inefficient vehicle since >90% of its inefficiency does not have anything to do with aerodynamics.

    Active Air Suspension: Reliability?!

Yes, I was thinking specifically about the 40kWh battery.

    Active Air Suspension: Reliability?!

This makes sense to me. Otherwise different battery packs may require different sets of springs and possibly shocks/struts. I would definitely want to be able to upgrade to higher capacity battery in the future without changing the suspension.

Screw range anxiety, I have mpg anxiety!

I'm sorry about your loss... I've been using Fuelly for tracking http://www.fuelly.com/driver/zdre/golf (their mobile site is nice) Averaged 46.1 MPG in 2011.

Screw range anxiety, I have mpg anxiety!

I have 'gas' (actually diesel) anxiety when I drive... I feel anxious when I average below 45mpg :). My Golf obliterates the EPA estimates of 30/42/34 every time though.

    Model S Reservation Tally

Finally bit the bullet and reserved today - P6415. Planning on getting the 40kWh, possibly with a tech package. I still haven't seen the car, so whether we actually purchase depends on the test drive and some clarifications about certain features (i.e. DC charging the 40kWh pack)

    SMALLER Battery Packs FASTER 0-30???

It was just a guess that assumed that the battery packs would be able to put out the same power. Now that we know they can't, 0-30 times may match or be even slower in smaller packs.

Model S Reservation Holder Demographics: Age

    I am not sure if this is correct, but a limit of 10 should allow splitting <25, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69, 70+

Recycle motor waste energy to heat the tesla model S in cold wheater ?

My VW Golf TDI has this. When the engine is cold and it is below 40 F outside, auxiliary electric cabin air heater turns on until the engine warms up. In freezing temperatures, the diesel engine takes more than 10 minutes to heat up enough to be useful for cabin heat, so it is nice not to have...

Model S in two showrooms this coming weekend

Don't all cars with fog lights have this by now? My VW Golf TDI also has this (Skoda is a VW brand). It's helpful when pulling in/out of the driveway, but it does not work when the road curves, only at actual turns.

    Charging Station standards

It's odd that the 1913 plug is rated in Charge, not Current units. Is that a mistake?
  27. zdre

    What charge port connector?

You get lower DC voltage (but higher current can be pulled) in phase-to-phase connections (total ideal power output remains the same). I'm sure Tesla can engineer something with just 3 pins, but I don't know how the use of Neutral affects efficiency.

    Future Charging for Model S 1-phase or 3-phase ?

My belief has been that making a 3-phase rectifier is not any more expensive in parts than making a 1-phase rectifier of the same power output. I see no reason why Tesla could not make a 3-phase 10kW charging module for the European market and add two smaller pins to the new connector. However...

    Umc 2.0

I think the charge door should be able to open with any Tesla connector. The connector should be able to be inserted at any time, but removed only when the car is unlocked. This will make it possible for someone else to start charging the car while preventing disconnects and theft. To make it...

    Model S crash worthiness

Wow, the front of the car gets folded into nothing... The absence of an ICE allows the body to absorb much more energy and reduce the impact on the passengers.

    Where's the charging port?

I suspect it is under the tail light. Since the tail light is most likely LED, it can be very thin, and may open up just like a filler door. The modules would be switched from inside the trunk. I guess we only have to wait a day to find out... P.S. I didn't realize that I am posting today for...
