Pregnant woman hit by MX (out of main)

But the car was off? And in park? How does a 2 year old turn it on and put it in drive?

Pregnant woman hit by MX (out of main)

Wow... A friend just emailed me this brutal lawsuit: https://www.plainsite.org/dockets/3yygt6grn/superior-court-of-california-county-of-alameda/harcourt-v-tesla-inc/ Model X spontaneously accelerated into a pregnant woman in her garage and pinned her against the wall. No one was in the drivers...

Did Tesla ever issue a statement saying it was fake? I remember they were sending investigators out there, but Phil LeBeau backed off the fake claims iirc

The 80% limit on superchargers is quite frustrating. Can't Tesla have a more elegant solution? For example, if there are 8 stalls and only 5 cars nearby, just remove the limit.

This is a bad investment strategy. No one should be investing 4-5 years worth of savings into a single stock. The wise regret of most wealthy men: "I wish I'd bet more."

Source? This seems wildly inaccurate. They're no longer in the top 10 by market share.

That's just wrong. Stating you're "on track" is a material update It's a transition from guidance to reality Companies are supposed to issue an 8K when material information leaks out. 50k orders quarter-to-date is material.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Has Tesla issued an 8K for Elon's email yet? When is the deadline for this? Edit: Why the disagree? Isn't this a material leak?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Internal emails can contain material information. The SEC settlement says ANY written communication. Doesn't specify public vs private. Read that email again. It reveals nothing new. "If we have the same cash burn rate as Q1, we will blow through the 2.5B we just got in 10 months." There's...
  12. JohnDinger

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don't think that one explicitly violated the settlement though. It didn't really have any figures - it was just math and extrapolation. SEC settlement specifically calls out ANY written communication about order or production volume. This email, if not approved by Tesla's counsel, violates...

I hope Elon's email was reviewed by Tesla's counsel... The SEC settlement wasn't limited to Twitter, and they seem to be eager to eat Elon alive.

Just listened to the Jonas call, and Jesus, this thing is absolutely brutal. I thought Jonas was a bull? Three most harsh bits: 1 - Jonas called out how damning SolarCity is in that it's increased the cost of capital for the whole company despite being only 10% of the company's valuation. 2 -...

How, exactly, has Wall Street created this? Wall Street is what has funded them with billions so far... 2.8B this month, over 2B in August 2017... Without Wall Street, the Model 3 wouldn't have existed in 2018. I'm so sick of seeing people blame Wall Street. This is how capitalism works...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

"Trying to please WS"? Wall Street is the thing that just gave Tesla 2.5 billion dollars. It's not too much to ask Tesla to produce a year of profitability. They're already in the hole, and expected to go deeper. I think the biggest thing analysts are asking is what changes the trend? Again...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes, they did. From the report: We enabled the feature and drove on several highways across Connecticut. In the process, multiple testers reported that the Tesla often changed lanes in ways that a safe human driver would not—cutting too closely in front of other cars, and passing on the right.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don't think this is biased. Elon claimed that NoA would get you from the on-ramp to the off-ramp with no human intervention. In my experience, human intervention is typical required.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

SpaceX shares aren't liquid, and the value of SpaceX isn't validated by the broader market. As an example, if he raised 500M at a 50B valuation, there's only 500M worth that supports that valuation. When you go public, the whole market supports the valuation. I think Musk's "margin loans" are...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think the market gave Tesla that value when Model S+X sales were strong. For me, the biggest miss for Elon on the Q1 call was the cannibalization question. The Model 3 is clearly taking away market share from the Model S, and the current refresh is unlikely to be enough. There are Model 3...

Source? Googling "capacity of ship number of cars" says that the highest capacity ship holds 8500 cars, second highest capacity is 6200, and below that are under 4500 or lower. A quick search and it doesn't look like Tesla is using the 8500 or 6200 type ships.

I'm surprised that Tesla is still fighting this. Police report is out. It says that Skabooshka did, in fact, hit someone with his car. However, it says that it was at very slow speed, resulted in no injuries. The officer who wrote the report states that he believed it was completely...

I agree. If Elon is as serious about aggressively cutting costs as his email tone suggests, then the Semi should go on hold. In addition to the costs to get the lines going, the Semi also requires significant updates to the Supercharger network. Truckers can drive a maximum of 11 hours before...

What I don't understand is... Why doesn't Elon have someone review his communication? I'm not saying that he should get someone who approves or denies his communications; just someone that looks at it and goes "Have you thought about how X might be perceived?" A few years ago, I worked at a...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It's not enough for autonomous vehicles to be better than the average human. They have to be better than the best driver. Every human thinks they're better than the average at driving. My wife has driven over 100,000 miles and never been in an accident. You're going to need a lot of nines to...
  33. JohnDinger

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

To be fair, Elon made those same promises. I think they all realized that autonomous driving is harder than they'd imagined. You can't just be 99.9% effective - need to be 99.9999999% It's hard to solve obscure corner cases with today's modeling and AI learning strategies. Even for Tesla.

How did the company sell 110% more cars compared to Q1 2018, and yet still lose 700M? Why is the company forecasting a loss in Q2 despite record quarterly deliveries? 4 months ago, Tesla was going to be "profitable and cash flow positive for all quarters going forward" - so why is Elon...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I agree, but I think a Google or Tencent would wait to snatch up Tesla after a large restructure. No one is going to want to pick up SolarCity or Tesla energy. They're persistent liabilities for the company, including off-sheet liabilities like penalties for failing to staff Buffalo or huge...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Reflecting on today's stock price and some of the posters here, I think it'd be a good reminder to say that most of Wall Street isn't trading for 10x companies. Venture Capitalists and Growth Funds play for those style of companies and risk profiles. But institutions on Wall Street are elated...

Uhh, it might? More than doubling quarterly CapEx and declining international ASPs could increase cash burn, yes... Isn't this why they raised money? The China factory needs to become fully operational to eliminate the burn.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

What?? I am also curious how Dave came up with the $37,900 number. But GAAP cost and cash cost do reconcile in the long run. For example, how would you report the "cash cost" of the stamping equipment with a car made 3 years later?

I hate the "disagree" button because it's used more as a "dislike" button than a "disagree" one. If you disagree with something, post why. It's strange that the opposite of the "like" button is a "disagree" button. As an example... Elecktek's article about Elon taking over the autopilot...

A large part of the market's concern is ASP. The Model S decline is quite alarming. I would assume that a base Model S had 2x or more the gross contribution of an LR Model 3. I haven't looked at the Model X numbers, but I think Norway is demonstrating that there might be a cannibalization...

Post of the week right here. I'll sell the same option for $2.5k. The idea this is an "appreciating asset" is absolutely absurd. I also don't really understand the strategy for Tesla, here. If they deliver the FSD technology next year, why would they let production constrain them? Why not...

In California, autonomous vehicles have to use "disengagement" as their key safety metric that they report back to the public. That sucks for Tesla, because there are lots of instances where a disengagement might be totally normal, or even the driver's preference. Ex: Driver disengages to make...

Tell that to the Tobacco companies. Or Boeing/FAA. Regulators don't use data to make decisions. The first use of power is to retain power. The only thing regulators act on is what helps them get reelected. That's why lobbyists are so powerful. They don't donate money, but they introduce you...

This is a pretty bad argument. Amazon, Google, and Microsoft don't make products that need to be conspicuously tested on public roads. And Google has had no problem showing off Waymo. Don't forget that this is a regulatory game, and companies like Google and GM have very powerful lobbyists...
