    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Not forced to be exporting that much - he could be exporting 7-10kwh and saving the difference, with a net reduction of 17kWh. Plenty are getting IO slots on trickle charge daily during the times that the current savings sessions have run, upping their average daily use by charging batteries etc...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Hi, Try this link for GivTCP, yes it's for HA and I've just bought a Dell wyse of eBay to run it: There are a number of ready made files for dual Inverters etc to download: https://www.facebook.com/groups/615579009972782/?ref=share With regards to your problem, I'm not seeing those issues of...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

You shouldn't get any noticeable cross charging when generating on both, but you might if the dominant inverter isn't receiving much generation due to your position of the panels. EMS is a fair way off yet, and the best bet for running it effectively is with GivTCP of which there is ready made...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I've just bought a small server to run the GivTCP in the background to eliminate this problem -apparently works very well.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Saw your post elsewhere, a friend of mine had this brand and is really happy with the performance so far (originally was to be Givenergy).

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yes, that's me - try this group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/615579009972782/?ref=share It tends to flip from one to the other, one is more dominant than the other though - downside is small losses, main one being unnecessary cycling of the batteries.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Cross charging will be an issue even if set up as effectively separate systems - it was fine with Gen1 inverters originally, but latest software apparently monitors AC ( source: my original two Gen1's and now Gen2's). EMS is out in the wild testing on AC Inverters, not yet on hybrids - so when...

    Octopus Go/Go Faster/Flux/Agile/IO ??

Prior to Octopus Go, now Flux, was on EDF Go electric 98 - 10 hours every night and all weekend on a cheap rate and worked well with my lifestyle.

    Octopus Go/Go Faster/Flux/Agile/IO ??

It'll be interesting how these rates may alter in July as the price caps reduce. I'm guessing they'll drop, but likely to be relative as import should also follow.

    Octopus Go/Go Faster/Flux/Agile/IO ??

It all depends on personal circumstances, I'm currently on Flux and will likely swap to Go/intelligent for winter period. This month I'll have been paid around £150 after my usage.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

The batteries will charge at 3.6kW with the Gen2/3 hybrid inverters, the AC inverter limits this to 3kW. With Go, you only would fill 1.5 x 9.5kWh batteries, which is why I went with one battery per inverter for now.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Must have posted and missed your additional one in the process! If the the output is showing as 2.6kW then that is a Gen 1 hybrid inverter ( max actual charge is around 2.48kW with these). They've been recently available "free" with battery purchases from certain wholesalers. You definitely need...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Also in relation to charging, if you're on Octopus intelligent for example, you'd only be able to charge two batteries per inverter in the 6 hour cheap window.
  15. 9

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

If you're using Givenergy and dependent on 7kWh from the batteries only, you'll need multiple inverters and batteries. The 3.6W and 5kW inverters, either gen2 or gen3, each discharge maximum of 3.6kWh from batteries only. If you need that rate continuously, and have two inverters and only two...

    Only difference between gen2 and gen3, technically,is solar input up to 15A from 13A (gen1 11A).

    Octopus tracker tripled

I'm guessing they've "hedged" a considerable amount of gas at a higher rate than the tracker is currently running at. They're not going to want to allow everyone on a much cheaper rate and make a loss.
  22. 9

    Octopus tracker tripled

Yes, I moved onto it in February - this and combining with Flux ( solar) should hopefully end up paying me at least until end of December before reverting to Go/intelligent.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yes, definitely set up independently as the Gen1's weren't behaving like this. It's likely there is some AC monitoring in the Gen2 firmware that maybe causing the issue, but like you said not ideal because of the losses but also unnecessary phantom cycling of the batteries. My understanding is...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

The cross charging wasn't there for me with the Gen1 Inverters, I believe I had the system set up completely independent to try an eliminate any chance. It was working very well, the East would charge its battery via the associated inverter and the same via the West. The only down side was if...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Just watch out for the cross charging of the gen2 inverters, a new piece of kit called EMS will control it, but when it is out is anyone's guess! There are third party solutions if you fancy tinkering.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I have my Givenergy batteries set to charge in the cheap 4 hour Go period whatever percentage depending on the next day generation. The key here is to keep the charge period for the whole cheap time zone (00:30 to 04:30). So if the batteries are full early they won't discharge to car, the car...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I'm not familiar with that inverter but yes you're likely to be limited to 3.6kWh either by max of batteries or combination of batteries and solar. A larger inverter, like a 5kW Givenergy Gen2 can provide 5kW to house by use of 3.6kWh via battery and the difference by solar. Yes, anything over...
  48. 9

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

It does seem undersized but also depends on the pitch of your roof. There will potentially be clipping in summer/good weather at noon, but as the sun moves around the generation will increase on one and decrease on the other. Personally a 5-6 kW inverter would be better, I'm guessing it's more...
