Current owners of 40 kWh configuration

Any 40 owners still out there? While mine has had some bumps (e.g. 3 DU replacements, the last one costing $7k out of warranty)... it's still surprisingly performing like it did on day one... the best car I've ever owned. Buying a "Model S" in 2013, for $56k (after credits) and getting 60...

Current owners of 40 kWh configuration

'left as 40's', I think you are likely spot on. However, the only difference between a 40 and a 60 (classic) is one byte in a text file (e.g. config=0|1)... w/some messing any 'upgraded' 40 can be reverted (and any 60 downgraded to a '40') As for 'rarity', maybe it is the VIN that matters more...

Current owners of 40 kWh configuration

2013... new Model S for $50k. I still can't quite understand the "lack of interest" at the time. Then giving 40 buyers a locked 60 pack, increased 0-60 and then an OTA upgrade path was just thick layer of icing on an already great deal. 2021... I still glow over my 40, the mighty runt of the...

    Trade in SR+ - 20% depreciation in 5 months

Why stress about it? Elon said your M3 is going to make you $30k per year as a Robotaxi. $300k over the lifespan of your car. You'll be able to buy several Y's. Do you doubt Elon? (3:04 time mark)

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Tesla recalls almost 135,000 vehicles over touchscreen failures "The company isn’t all that enthusiastic, however. It rejected the notion that the chip wear represented a defect, arguing to officials that it was “economically, if not technologically, infeasible” to expect the eMMC storage to...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Um, lemme see. They, 1) Created the problem. (Fart Apps vs Fixing Logging). 2) First had owners pay $2000+ to replace the MCU instead of the card. 3) Put drivers in harms way. 4) Caused early adopters/loyal owners years of headache, before finally admitting fault. 5) Have admitted to the NHTSA...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Maybe with the with the previous log tweaking, etc, they are getting the average life expectancy over the 100k mark? Then they're off the hook. Seems MCU1 eMMC death is more of a matter of when, not if. I think this should have been a 'recall' and not a 'warranty adjustment'.

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Also funny how Tesla twists the optics and calls it a "Warranty Adjustment Program"? While back in July, the NHTSA had Honda "recall" 608,000 vehicles for faulty software causing random reboots and problems with the backup camera. July 28, 2020 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V438000 Distorted or...

My thoughts on the MCU1 failure debacle and the outcome for Tesla

I got the same notice. I have had a tough road with MCU failures over the years, so I am happy that it looks like I'll be receiving a reimbursement for my first Tesla repaired MCU. I wonder if they will do the same for the 3rd party eMMC repair I had done on my second Model S or for my own labor...

Incorrect. GeezerSquid also confirmed w/photo that he had the wood trim (first page in thread). Others had variations of white molding. Considering those two had removed their frunk liner and looked, there are probably many others. Also, the LCC's constrained with 'nylon brackets'... those are...

    Battery Day...

From a technical perspective; I think it was good how they went in depth on the battery chemistry and manufacturing efficiency. From a basic 'wow factor' perspective... kind of a overhyped dud. A bigger battery cell can store more energy? Who knew?

Found this little gem on my $55K Model Y

You have to admit it is funny to see Home Depot molding be used to assemble the internals of a brand new Tesla (I think that was the OP's intent). Unless we think every post on TMC should only be complimentary of Elon and Tesla? If Tesla told you your car was going to be delivered late because...

Found this little gem on my $55K Model Y

It might help if someone could find photos of a Toyota, Mereceds, etc. using comparable hacks in recent models. So it might be better to import a Y from China? If that LCC cracks at 51k and Tesla says you're $oL?

Found this little gem on my $55K Model Y

Most reasonable people would care (i.e. GAF) if their car was made of MDF particle board (vs. 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel?). Technically... Yugo's 'worked'. Bad design can lead to problems years down the line. Read my sig... (two cars w/MCU failures = $$$$ out of warranty repairs).

My thoughts on the MCU1 failure debacle and the outcome for Tesla

Option 4: Tesla does the right thing. Retroactively covers MCU's under the 150k Battery/Drive Unit warranty. Tesla reimburses those who had to repair under the old 50k coverage limits.

    Another rejected model Y

Tesla has been manufacturing cars for a while. Should growing pains be an excuse this point? Maybe those pesky 'humans', being forced back to the factory during a pandemic, are not taking much 'pride' in their work. Better quality from the China factory?

    Tesla ignoring older cars!

Would also be nice if Tesla provided an 'official' path for upgrading to larger battery packs on older cars (as they degrade or to increase range/super charging rates). The S was designed for pack swaps.

My love for Tesla has taken a huge hit

For my S40, I swallowed the bitter pill and paid Tesla $$$$ for a new MCU1. If the MCU2 were an option at the time, I would have paid the extra. A year later the MCU died on my 70D... a TMC member replaced the eMMC after I pulled out the Tegra.

My love for Tesla has taken a huge hit

Similar experience when the MCU bricked on my S40; the two trucks Tesla sent refused to tow it saying they would damage it. I had to call AAA... they came with tire dollies. How Tesla has handled/serviced MCU issues has significantly changed my opinion of the company as well. Design issues...

MCU fails for the second time

Tesla recently halved the warranty on the MCU's down to 2 years. Maybe they lack confidence in their software fix? Seems one is better off saving money and having a longer life span with a 3rd party/upgraded chip.

Tesla Cancels Sub $40,000 Standard Range Tesla Model Y

Seems a bit like 2011, when Tesla announced they would make a sub $50k Model S (after tax incentives)... the "40" model. LA Turns Down SpaceX and Cost of Living Discussion
