Extremely long body shop times for Model S

So far the body shop has been quite proactive in keeping me informed. The accident wasn’t my fault but I am going through my insurance which limits my rental to 30 days.

Extremely long body shop times for Model S

Apparently there is a long line of cars waiting to be repaired. More likely, they sent the technicians to work on producing cars, and fixing them is lower margin.

Extremely long body shop times for Model S

They said pretty much all parts.

Extremely long body shop times for Model S

Ok, I'll drop "luxury" from the description. The point is still that I won't have a car for months, will be paying for it to sit in a repair shop and will be paying out of pocket for a rental on top of that. Are there any legal options worth considering?

Extremely long body shop times for Model S

My Model S is in the Tesla body shop in the Bay Area for repairs after an accident. Tesla can't even look at the vehicle until April and beyond that they are warning me that parts are in short supply so the repair could take months. Insurance will only cover me for 30 days of rental. Beyond...

Roadster J1772 and Tesla 2 Henry Sharp adapters for sale

I sold my Roadster so offering CAN JR and CAN SR for sale. I used these only 3-4 times as I rarely drove my Roadster . Asking for $499 each + shipping cost to Continental US or $950 + shipping for both together . More details here: The CAN - Roadster to J1772 or Model S/X connector

    Today's Roadster Orphan

Sadly my 1.5 (VIN 474) is going to be an orphan soon. I am parting with it as I cannot drive it any more due to a knee injury. 20,800 miles, in impeccable condition and a fresh battery. Its hard to let go...

    Tesla commitment to service

I received a refurbished PEM though technically they are supposed to use new parts. My original JVC KD-NX505 faceplate stopped working under warranty and I received a refurb as well. At some point we're going to run into parts issues and I'm afraid that's the end of the road for gen1 Roadsters...

    Tesla commitment to service

I think we are down to the last few PEMs on the 1.5 Roadsters. My PEM died last year and it took them three months to locate one.

    Tesla commitment to service

Anyone heard from service advisors about how long Tesla is going to keep servicing Roadsters? I had a power train fault and it took a while to diagnose. The SC had to email engineering in Palo Alto who took a week to get back with possible answers. They did debug it — turned out to be a...

Yet another TPMS for Roadster 1.5 thread

Looks like the OEM Tesla prices have gone up for the 1.5 TPMS sensors and are now $236 each! Mine recently died and I am reluctant to pay $944 for a set of 4. Anyone tried these sensors? http://www.oewheelsllc.com/TPMS/make/Tesla/model/Roadster/year/2008 Thanks in advance.

    Roadster 3.0

I am considering whether to defer as well but my worry is that the 3.0 battery won't be available for too much longer. We have a window before the Model 3 ramps up and the factory is swamped with service and maintenance issues.

    Roadster 3.0

The question in my mind is whether an aftermarket battery in 5 years will cost a lot less than 29K today.
  14. A

    Roadster 3.0

Hi folks my turn is up for the upgrade and I need some help crossing the threshold :) Was the cost exactly $29K so you paid $24K (29K - 5K deposit)? Is the upgrade likely to somewhat increase the value of the car? Clearly the Roadster isn't yet a collectible but I am thinking a well-maintained...

Now Shipping: Custom Tesla Roadster 2-Piece Slotted Rotors

MsJulie: I would love to compare the braking performance with my Roadster. I have the stock rotors with the carbotech pads.

Now Shipping: Custom Tesla Roadster 2-Piece Slotted Rotors

Apologies folks, I am joining the thread late. Is the price the same as the first group buy? And are the specs the same? I wonder if anyone on the forum tested 60 to 0 stopping distances with the new rotors and carbotechs.

    Roadster drag coefficient

Does anyone on this forum happen to know if the reported drag coefficient is measured with the hardtop on or without a top? The only known report of the drag coefficient seems to be from this article. The quoted number of 0.35 for the Roadster seems suspiciously high.

    Extending a CPO Roadster Warranty

The answer seems a bit nuanced. You can extend a warranty only if the one expiring is the first and only time the car had a warranty. Very few CPOs would likely qualify. Mine happened to be a floor demo/loaner that had never been sold by Tesla but was a CPO because it had been driven a couple of...

    Extending a CPO Roadster Warranty

Sethr, Ryan was the one who sold me my Roadster. I don't think he works there any more.

    Roadster 3.0

Meanwhile, we still don't have a clear picture of a fully charged (range mode) 3.0 ;)

    Extending a CPO Roadster Warranty

It can be extended once and I am going through the process right now. Will post back if I am successful.

    Rattle from somewhere in front

I have a rattle while driving at around 65mph. It sounds much like a rattlesnake - but it is constant and around 5 rattles a second :) I thought it might be the Bilstein's but it only appears at 65mph or above and never a lower speeds. This seems really difficult to diagnose so I thought I would...

    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

Has anyone else on this forum done the Boze custom wheels? I worry about changing the look of the car too much. The stock grey wheels match the color of my Roadster well.

Trunk latch sticks and struts are weak

One side of my trunk does not open consistently. It sticks every other time. I have greased the latch but that did not work. Seems like the electromagnet may be failing. Also, the struts that lift up the latch are getting pretty weak. My car only has 17k miles. Seems like these parts were not...

Small crack in CF near the bottom pan by driver door

That turned out fine. It was not a crack in the CF but the top layer of epoxy had cracked. I've coated it with epoxy and now I need to find the matching color. Does Tesla sell the paint? Thanks.
  28. A

Small crack in CF near the bottom pan by driver door

I don't think this is a critical structural part, like in a bike or aircrsft so repair may be fine. I'm not sure though.
  29. A

Small crack in CF near the bottom pan by driver door

Here is what it looks like. It looks like a small rock may have been kicked back from the front tires at speed. It's about 0.5in end to end.

Small crack in CF near the bottom pan by driver door

I noticed a couple of small cracks on the carbon fiber at the bottom of the vehicle where the aluminum plate bolts are. Th see are about 0.25 inch, not too deep. Looks like I might have bottomed out on a speed bump as there are scrapes near the crack. How does CF behave with cracks? Do they...

    Roadsters not selling

Obviously, the poster (gaswalla) is uninformed. I have the Roadster and the S. To say the ride is unrefined is a insult to the car. The Roadster has more precise control than most cars even twice as expensive. I can't say the same for the S. Other than a few minor things that were fixed under...

    Roadster 3.0

The Palo Alto service center in the Bay Area just did a 3.0 upgrade. Not sure if the owner is on the forum. The range mode charge (before balancing) was around 335 miles. I expect this will go up as the ESS balances out. I will try to get deets.
  33. A

    Normal Charging Noise?

That sound seems normal. It's the two fans, with air vortexes slightly out of sync. Happens often in closed spaces. Should not be an issue. My 1.5 does it sometimes and I just open the garage door and the sound goes away.

    10-Way Adjustable Bilstein Suspension Failure

Those Bilsteins are crappy shocks but I haven't heard of them dying out so quickly on Roadsters. Yours seems to be the only reported ones on the forum that have failed.

    Mild shimmy after cold start

I'm seeing a very mild steering wheel shimmy during the first 10-15 miles on cold starting that completely disappears after the tires warm up. Could this be a bad set of tires or a wheel balance issue? I have hit a few potholes recently but it seems unlikely that alignment would be a problem.

    Roadster 3.0

Seems like they patched (hacked) the firmware :) There is no reason why it can't go to 80% and still maintain reasonable longevity.

    Reducing drag coefficient

I'd be up for discussing a group-buy with Dietsch if there is a rear diffuser design that has been simulated.
  38. A

    Reducing drag coefficient

If Wikipedia is accurate, the Roadster has a Cd (drag coefficient) of 0.35 whereas the Model S is 0.24 and the Model 3 may be even lower. I am wondering if there are low-hanging fruit to be had on the Roadster and that can be done aftermarket?
  39. A

    Roadster 3.0

This is more useful range than my ICE :-) It also means I will have to charge less often so the battery will go through fewer cycles. Woot!

Charge on plug-in or delayed charge?

This topic may have been beaten too many times, but I am wondering about charging on plug-in to cool the battery vs. charge when below 60% SOC. My trips are about 25-45 miles of freeway driving uphill/downhill and I have been charging at 208V/30A immediately on parking to cool the battery...
  41. A

    Roadster 3.0

I view the Roadster as a once-in-long-time (maybe lifetime) driving experience. I too bought my 1.5 during the glut of 2013 and the 1.5 was good enough for me. Sure, the 2.0 or 2.5 are improvements but I personally can't differentiate the performance and never drive my car at those limits...

Extension of warranty at the end of 3 years

I called the Tesla support line and was told the only way to extend the warranty is to visit the service center. Is this true?
  43. A

    Roadster 3.0

Their service for the Roadster has been very good at the Palo Alto center where some of the original Roadster technicians from their Menlo Park "factory" went. I don't know much about the service at other parts of the world.
  44. A

    Roadster 3.0

Bonnie: Yes, I was aware of the clay model but the other real Roadster next to it was less well maintained than most forum owners cars :-) Hopefully you are right about support but statistics seem to be against us. Don't get me wrong - I haven't parted with my Roadster even though it would have...

    #483 meets a Silverado

Having been to the factory, finding Roadster parts is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The Model S and X parts are neatly organized. Not the Roadster parts. The factory itself is massive - 10 football fields in size. Roadster parts aren't getting much love or attention in there.

    Roadster 3.0

The 3.0 upgrade is only a subset of what was promised a year ago. If this was a priority they would be touting it as the highest range commercially produced passenger EV or something to that effect. I took the factory tour a couple of days ago and there is a sad-looking Roadster which they talk...
  47. A

    Roadster 3.0

Bringing the discussion back to the 3.0 battery thread, one of the reasons I jumped on this upgrade is that I think it's now or never. I expect future support for the Roadster 1.5-2.5 to essentially die out as Tesla R&D and service focuses on newer models. To put it another way, their staff...
  48. A

    Roadster 3.0

I am in the queue for the upgrade. So if I understand correctly, my 29K gets me about 80 additional range miles, it won't charge on a J1772 and the CAN does not work and Tesla charging stations won't work either (with Henry's Model S to Roadster adapter). This seems like a downgrade to me. I...
  49. A

    Roadster 3.0

Another question: is the 330 miles in range mode? I assume it is. So the standard mode would work out to 264 miles.

I drove my first Tesla 6 years ago — and I still believe it's the best thing the company has created

I have to agree with the author. I just got my Model S with the autopilot and it is an amazing vehicle. It's aim is to isolate you from the world in its cocoon like bubble of comfort, luxury and quiet. No matter how "sporty" the image of he S Tesla's marketing might want to project, it is...
