Farewell, EV World, from Salisbury UK

After 6 months planning and then 14 months ownership I’ve turned away from the EV adventure and returned to the ICE world. My Tesla M3 Dual Motor has gone and is being replaced with a used Porsche 718 Boxster S. Why? The Tesla Model 3 is a good EV, but that doesn’t make it a good driving car...

    9 Month Performance Car Comparison

After 9 months with the Model 3 Dual Motor I thought it worth comparing it with the "other" performance car in the stable, so to speak. One has a 4.8L V8, 362 bhp, 361 ft lbs, 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and a range of 250 miles between tank fills. It weighs 1230kg and at best achieves 27mpg. It is a...

    Camera Window Doesn't De-ice

Center upper windscreen there is a panel that has a miniature "Heated Window" section, I presume to defrost the screen over the cameras. This was the view this morning after pre-heating the car... Still frozen. Is this normal, or another fault to report? Appreciate feedback...

Charge Point Flap Opens as car locks

And also the warnings show a fault suggesting the flap may not open when commanded, although it does. I've reported this to Tesla who set up a visit to Winchester next week. Has anyone else had such issues.

    2021.44.30.11 Installed in UK

This just downloaded itself so I installed it. No new release notes. Does anyone here know what it does? There is much chatter about it on the Netherlands site, but only in Dutch!

    Coolant Purges and Top Up?

The M3 LR went into to Tesla Winchester to have the Car Computer replaced. The invoice (FOC) states: "Confirmed fault within vehicles car computer, replaced for new, carried out coolant purges and topped up. Firmware installed and vehicle road tested, confirmed all operating as designed"...

MS 75 or M3 75 LR, Dual Motor)

I'm had the use of a 2017 MS 75 today as the M3 AWS is in for brain surgery. So fat 170 miles and likely to be more tomorrow as the job is not completed. I had wondered about a used MS 75D when selecting the M3 AWD: I'm now VERY glad I did. Why? The S 75 is a motorway mile muncher, it really...

    Reserved a Roadster

Has anyone here in the UK placed a full reservation for a Roadster? I'm on the same horns of dilemma as Automatic Man. OK, I know I won't see one for about 2 years, but it is beautiful. Yes, I know it is essentially a Model S Plaid in a pretty frock, but I think this is the only thing left...

    Back End Stepped Out

Something I didn't really expect... Did you know that the M3 back end can swing out? Well it can.... as I discovered. Hard right turn from the main road on to a side road, on the apex of a left had bend. a blind corner so I didn't linger. Wet cold road, a bit too much boot from stationary with...

    BMW EV Delivery Stop

I've just been told by a pal that BMW has told all UK dealers to hold delivery on any BMW EV due for delivery. They have not provided a reason or re-scheduled the delivery. And we thought Tesla was a bit unhelpful with delivery changes???

Why I believe the Tesla M3 AWD is the only really viable EV

Charging my M3 this morning in the sun (PVs on the roof contributing) the App said that at 90% I'd have 307 miles range. I looked at the Mercedes App for SWMBO's AMG C43 and it said that at 91% full it had enough petrol for 307 miles! A coincidence... but one that made me think. The biggest...

How Much data does the car share with Tesla?

A conversation with a Tesla service person about my car made me realise just how much data the car shares with Tesla's "Mothership". We were discussing the problems arising from the faulty car computer and I mentioned that the side cameras were regularly reporting that they had been blinded or...

    Car Computer Chip Type

My April 21 build M3 Long Range needs a new "Car Computer", Tesla don't expect this before mid January 21. The car works, but Autopilot isn't safe to use as it is prone to cutting out or trying to do things I wouldn't do. So I don't use it: if I commuted in the car I'd be cross, but to be honest...

    Supercharging Not Recorded

I got 1000 miles free and need to use it all up by 22 November. Last week I went into a Supercharger and filled from 7% to 85%, about 250 miles, The number of free miles in my Loot Box has not changed... Is this a known issue? I'll try again this week!!

Age of Google Maps used by Tesla?

The "Satellite View" provided by Google to Tesla, and as used on their Google Maps PC/Phone apps is becoming so dated it isn't funny. On the south side of Salisbury by the A36 we have a Premier Inn and Mc Donalds drive through, built in 2017/2018 and opened in 2019. Google shows the site as a...

Re Trim M3 Seats in Leather

I have two issues with Tesla Vegan Leather. 1. It is fossil fuel based, which I find a bit hypocritical given the company is obsessed about reducing the use of fossil fuels. 2. They don't feel like real leather. So I've contacted a couple of upholstery trimmers to explore the cost of...

    Aero Cap Wheels in Settings

Exploring the Settings screen I thought I'd see what options there were in Wheel Options. Much as I expected, other than the option to select Aero Cap Wheels, rather than Aero. I did so and now the image of the car has the wheels as I have them. Nice, but does changing from the flat disc to the...

Charge Slowed from 220kw to 45kw

I needed to charge after a home to LHR and return, starting with about 190 miles showing, I arrived home with 7% showing, so I charged up to 15% before driving 10 miles to the Amesbury Supercharger to grab some of the free miles I have in my loot box. The satnav started "preparing. for fast...

Tesla Model 3, Three Month Review

22 May 2021 We collected our M3 LR AWD from Tesla, Bristol. 3 months to the day some impressions: Costs: 2240 Miles, 587 Kw/H used and an average consumption of 262 Wh/mile. Assuming the battery has a usable capacity of 78Kw/h that gives a range of 297 miles. On our Scottish Power tariff...

Is the M3 the new Ford Cortina?

I see 3 to 4 Tesla M3s a day now. Before the M3 seeing a Tesla was rare... In June the M3 was the best selling car in England, topping all ICE Cars. Shanghai is on stream, Berlin to follow and after that? The Honda plant in Swindon will soon be vacant. Ideal for making all the RHD cars. Is...

    Where Are the Airbags

I have seen that the Model 3 has multiple airbags, basec on crash tests: Driver & Passenger front and knee, seat side bolster, and side curtains from front to rear. I presume that all European specification 3s are the same. Or are there differences? The only place there is an "Airbag" warning...

    Sentry Mode and GDPR

Leave your Tesla in a UK carpark with sentry mode enabled may bring you into conflict with GDPR Regulations. According to the Information Commissioner's Office ('ICO') motorists who are recording with a dash cam are likely to be 'data controllers' under the purposes of the GDPR and must comply...

Is the Key Card Really Secure?

In the UK theft of high end cars by activating a key fob remotely using some kind of booster, is rife. We keep those keys inside an old metal biscuit box. But do we need to be concerned about the Tesla key card? As an RFID device it has no battery so my assumption is that it can't be activated...

    Lost UK Accessory Shipment

I ordered a pair of Air Filters to fit in my Model 3. The shipment arrived at DHL East Midlands on 14 May. Since then it seems to have disappeared. I've contacted Tesla, twice, and DHL, once. No response. Any suggestions as how I Can escalate this issue?

    Tesla Display Microfiber Cloth

My Model 3 was delivered with a Tesla branded display cleaning micro-fiber cloth. It works wonderfully well: does anyone know if they can be purchased? I'd like one for my glasses!!

    Tesla Model 2

Now that Autocar has run a main "Teaser Feature" on the Model 2 I suppose that some sort of discussion will start. Golf sized, Golf Price, up to 260 miles range? All probable. This moves Tesla into the "Mr Average" market. Comments? "Mods, Couldn't find another post on this, feel free to move!"

    Disappearing Maps

Driving on the A272, from the A24 to Winchester on more than one occasion the map display simply disappeared. Does this mean that the maps are not stored in the car computer, so it has to download maps? Can anyone explain? Thanks...

First Serious Drive in M3 LR.

Our first serious drive in the Tesla today, 188 miles over to near Ferring, on the south coast, for lunch with Mike and Roz at the Blue Bird Cafe (recommended). We started with 93% battery, got back with 34%. Really quite impressive.. The electricity, based on charging at home, cost £6.75… the...

Is The Model 3 AWD Long Range a cheap Car?

Moderator comment - references to ER and Extended Range changed to LR and Long Range I think it is. at least in the UK, it is cheap when compared to ICE Engined sports saloons. I thought I'd look at the Tesla 3 LR AWD and compare with the Mercedes AMG C43 saloon, similar in size, AWD but a bit...
