TPMS disable / delete on Model S 2012 to late 2014 "Baolong"

Also, the OVMS project has something that can fake the TPMS messages on the CAN bus. It would be likely the entire Balong unit could be removed and the OVMS unit just send fake messages. https://docs.openvehicles.com/en/latest/introduction.html

    debug-only massege: ID 1087

Hey guys. I know this is old, but I am also getting this message. My question is: Why would I get this message with the fuses removed, while not charging, or even plugged in? Here's the deal... I blew a transistor... which took out the fuses. Naturally, I got a bunch of warnings. Now it's been...

Is there an old, salvaged VMS someone would like to sell? I am considering doing some reverse engineering.

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

Anyway... I don't recall ever enabling "debug". It started before I knew how to get at the service screen. Where is debug on the screen?

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

I was (also) getting those when I got my car back from Gruber. In the 9 years I had the car, I had never gotten that warning after charging over night. (I only got a battery overtemp on charging within the firs few months or ownership because the freon was low) Apparently the PEM duct wasn't...

    Charge Thermal Limit warning

I was told Tesla stopped the GSM cell service years ago. So they can't remotely connect to Roadsters anymore.

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

Interesting. My VDS shows the temps next to the blocks. The PEM gets hotter at lower speeds in the summer. Less air movement, and still using power to drive the motor transistors. At highway speeds it's slightly cooler (but less efficient)

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

F or C? :) I just drove around yesterday in about 100F, and the PEM was running at 49-52C with little issues.

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

Age? Heat? Not sure, but it is 10+ years old, and I drive in Texas heat. 105F (40C) or more on road surfaces. The PEM shows 55-60C in the summer.

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

Peter, The block is as a unit is fine. I thinks it's good value add. In this case, I'm not sure why but both nuts were extremely loose. There was virtually no force needed. When I opened the cover I could slide the right one back in easily, and then the screw pushed it right back out again...

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

Update: The car had essentially a catastrophic failure of the power IGBT's in one of the driver phase boards. They are basically one of three phases of an H-Bridge driver, two "half H-Bridges" on each board. They have 7 transistors all in parallel (14 total, upper and lower), 28 one each board...

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

On Friday it drove fine. No error codes at all. The overnight charge cycle started. When I got up Saturday, I heard the HPC kicking on and off every 20 seconds or so. I saw that is had partially recharged, but didn't fill up. So overnight something failed during the charge.

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

I found some there , more than $50, but at least not $128 each. I'll get some advice before installing them. Logically they should allow it to charge without engaging the motor circuits. But it appears that the system died during an overnight charge because the battery wasn't filled all the...

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

Sorry. The last one is ID 910. PhaseB High Side Desat Fault. I thought I proofed this post. Yes. APS inhibited. I've seen the interlock on the battery and will pull that if the car is going to sit too long. Useful information. I have since measured the 150A fuses with a DVM, and see that...

    Roadster 2.5 - Vin 1277 Failure - ID981 State Transition Fault

Hello, Yesterday I got up to find the vehicle would attempt to charge, then stop with an ID 981 "State Transition Fault" after about 5 seconds. Then about 10 seconds later, it would try again. The charge screen would show something ridiculously small, like 37 volts, on the HPC. Long before it...

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

Next question: (The actual precharge circuit is inside the battery , and beyond my ability to get to...) Tesla service just told me that since the car won't even charge on a 110V plug, then it is in the PWM, and is NOT the precharge circuit inside the battery. Does this sound correct? (If it...

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

Thanks. Easier Questions: Where is that board? (All fuses I could find, under just that the power connection panel, or with the entire PEM opened, were fine) I don't know what the CIC I/O board is, nothing is labeled. The only heat sink I see is mounted on the vertical board, off to the...

    #1146 DMC Motor Fan Problem?

The connector was dry and break easily. Don't buy the removal tool, a paperclicp pushed in the hole would work... Except the connector will have to be replaced. I labeled the old wires!! Snap it apart. Pull the pins. On mine I could just put them on the connector pin, and see they were...

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

Mark, What was the result? This AM we had a few power spikes as a storm was passing through. I have two messages: V_ess too LOW at the END of precharge V_ess too HIGH at the START of precharge (emphasis added by me) These seem opposite of what the RC precharge circuit would yield. But...

    #1146 DMC Motor Fan Problem?

Thanks. I ready picked them up from Mouser. Nice to have Mouser so close to me. I am hoping that it's only the pins, but I want to be equipped for anything. The pin extractor is $28!! Normally I can extract pins with other extractors or paperclips, but having no practice on this Molex...

    #1146 DMC Motor Fan Problem?

Well, I may have to open it and look at the electronics... After I did the fans, I also did the PEM. DIY: Roadster 2.5 PEM cleaning - step by step It was not too difficult. And everything was great for a few day. Then I got a PEM Fan motor fault. I can reach under and wiggle the connector...

DIY: Roadster 2.5 PEM cleaning - step by step

An AWESOME thanks for this. I just did it this morning. After shutting down the power, it took about 10 minutes for the voltage across the BAT +/- terminals to fall to under 2 volts. Must have been a lot of capacitors to bleed off. On my 2.5 the only difficulty was putting the PEM back in...

Is the eMMC memory subject to Failure?

Yes, that was my focus, just on if the Roadster has any issues. There are less, but it's the age and re-writes of the memory that cause the failure. So if it's an issue, I expect some people would have experienced it.

Suddenly, the car is jamming AM radio stations.

The post on the PEM cleaning, step #13 says take them and put them aside. They just slide off. DIY: Roadster 2.5 PEM cleaning - step by step Maybe I can find some that fit, over at Mouser or Digikey.

Suddenly, the car is jamming AM radio stations.

Hey guys! Is anyone still watching this thread? After reading the thread on cleaning the PEM yourself, I noticed that the torroid chokes are NOT on the power lines. So, the service center left them off, and could never figure out what was wrong... I'm going to have to convince them to give me...

Is the eMMC memory subject to Failure?

There, recently, is a lot of talk about the S having eMMC memory failures because of the excessive writes of the system log. Is the Roadster subject to this kind of failure? Support for the Roadster has been evaporating from Tesla themselves (as has their service gone way downhill). So I'd...

    #1146 DMC Motor Fan Problem?

Well, I do have the resource of a neighbor/friend who used to work for Honda. I saw the entire post on removing and cleaning the PEM. Mine is also a 2.5 Should be an identical process as that thread. Is there, under normal conditions, ANY power on any of those large cables? Or are they...

    #1146 DMC Motor Fan Problem?

I did what was suggested, and I can't feel ANY air exhaust. And my temps are slowly bubbling up... 40,41,42,43...42,41...42,43,44,45...44,43...44,45,46... So I assume there is a heated air being built up in the PEM. I cleaned the fans, and did a combo of 80+PSI air and a shop vac into and...

    #1146 DMC Motor Fan Problem?

Thanks. I have not taken apart the PEM. My other question, just for information, is where does the airflow go? I assume both duct fans blow IN. Where does the air exhaust? The PEM looks completely sealed from what I can tell. I blew into one duct, to see if it came out the other side. It...

TPMS CONTINUES TO FAIL... [RANT] And they are gonna send people the mars?

The Roadster cannot do a reset by driving. The newer Model S cars can. You either need to get the Tesla service guy to take his handehld unit and walk around the car to read the addresses of each wheel transmitter, then plug his unit in to program the main controller and program the...

In answers to your individual questions... 1. Is there a new antenna? I don't think so. 2. I am not familiar with owms.3... 3. Is there a tool? The Tesla service is supposed to do that. (Note, if he couldn't read the addresses, or he programmed the controller and it can't hear the wheel...

Threading the USB cable for the radio...

I also disliked the Kenwood. I thought it would be an improvement over the Alpine, but I still didn't like the small screen buttons. But I really like the new Pioneer 4400 so far (after one day, and not much using it yet)... I solved both problems myself. On the mic, you just pop the little...

Threading the USB cable for the radio...

I am replacing the radio, and the new one has "Android Play", so I need to plug it in. But the cable is USB-C. Two questions: 1. Before I break things with force (as I did the GSM antenna)... Is the microphone easily removable? It is just snapped in? I can't see or feel what is holding the...

    TPMS Questions

They are on the valve stem. They can probably be moved to the new wheels. Each valve stem sensor has a different address. And the antenna picks up the transmitted signals and decides which wheel it is based on the address. There are a few ways to reprogram the antennas if the stems are...

Does anyone have an old GSM antenna, or can recommend a source to buy one? I have damaged my antenna, while attempting to R&R the radio. The antenna is only a PCB in a case, with the coax soldered to it. A replacement PCB is all I would need, I can easily solder the replacement. Fabricating...

Service failed me AGAIN - ISO a windshield for Roadster 2.5

Safelite isn't giving me that option. I discussed it with them, they said they can't verify if it's a match unless they have part numbers to try to cross reference. It may also depend on the version. Mine is a 2.5. The service center finally called Safelite back (amazing how, after a week of...

Service failed me AGAIN - ISO a windshield for Roadster 2.5

So, this happened the other day, right in the driver side. My insurance filled out the claim, and connected me with one of their "approved" repair companies. They put in a call and email to Tesla. Over a week later, no one has responded. This is typical of the horrible service that Tesla...

TPMS CONTINUES TO FAIL... [RANT] And they are gonna send people the mars?

Moats: Why Tesla Can Do What Other Car Companies Only Dream About

I'm with you. All I buy is CPO now. I bought a "new" car once. It was wonderful... until within three years everything was breaking on it. I'll never buy another Chevy. I buy from reputable dealers and quality auto manufacturers. Mechanically they are full warranty, cosmetically, they are...

    Fremont delivery - car refused

Well I tend to agree. The iPhone was revolutionary. But their treatment of customers didn't suck either. No marketing genius can convince people to accept sh!t either. And there are a lot more threads like that than there are for BMW, Lexus, Acura, etc... And then think about the marketsize...

I'm with you 100%. I do not think they would have had this problem if they hired executives from car companies outside the USA. But it's as though they hired a bunch of flunkies from Detroit, who were responsible for ruining the American auto industry with crappy quality. They went bankrupt...

TPMS CONTINUES TO FAIL... [RANT] And they are gonna send people the mars?

They can fix it with their device. On a roadster, they would need to plug into the dash connector. But it takes about 90 seconds. Alternately, next time you are at the tire store, they can swap the tires and reverse the wheels (most likely un-mount the tires because of directional rotation)

TPMS CONTINUES TO FAIL... [RANT] And they are gonna send people the mars?

Watch him if you can... I am on good terms with the guy who did mine, and he let me write down the addresses as he scanned them. Ask him about this ECU ID. He might know something about it.
