The Volt is dead, long live the Volt!

I'm still driving my 2012 Ampera. It has 155.000+km, 6+ years old, Lifetime consumption is at 0.8l/100km and I'm driving her until her wheels fall off:

    Elon Musk

Musk at the first threat of being sued apologized and removed his original tweet. So that's the proof, that he knew, that the diver wasn't a pedo, otherwise he would present some evidence, which he didn't. Diver's attorney doesn't have to prove anything beyond that, because by the time Musk...

    Hyundai KonaEV

I have A/A rated tire (Continental eContact) on my 2012 Opel Ampera with dimensions 215/55/R17 and it's the same dimension Kona EV has. To bad Continental doesn't produce the tire anymore.

Exactly! Battery ground clearance is what turned me away from KonaEV. In the newest KonaEV video, Bjorn is preparing, I asked him to measure battery ground clearance. I think he will do that, but he can't post the video before the July 25, if I remember correctly:

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

Volt1/Ampera does that. My new 2012 Ampera started off with 85.9%SOC when it was fully charged. It slowly climbed over the years with useful battery capacity remaining the same. Now, 5 and half years later, with 140.000+km behind, the fully charged battery's SOC has reached 90.2% SOC and has...

If you only make number of cars to fulfill government quota while losing money, it's a compliance car. Even we, the GM defenders, now recognize it. Yes, it's a compliance car and a testbed for the next generation of EVs.

Yep, a compliance car. And the same goes for Europe:

BoltEV is practically finished in Europe. There's no GM presence in Europe, neither as a Chevrolet or Opel. And as I've read, PSA will be suing GM. Something about Opel purchase. I've given up on AmperaE and I'm waiting for KonaEV.

I was hoping to add the AmperaE to my original 2012 Ampera. I guess not. I'm waiting for the Kona EV now. I hope Hyundai doesn't disappoint me as well.

    Hundreds of Dismissals this week

Ampera sold poorly because it cost 60.000+ USD (45.000 EUR) in 2012 here in Europe, while Volt was below 40.000 USD in USA (1 EUR = 1.3 USD back then). Used Amperas are selling like hot cakes now, when they cost 10.000+ EUR, because it's a reliable car and the batteries are still in top shape.

Blog Bolt EV Sales to Go Nationwide a Month Early

I'm disappointed by the GM. We in Europe don't get bird's eye camera, we don't get LCD screen in the rearview mirror, but we do get a price increase (1500 US$) with a shortage of deliveries, while there are thousands unsold Bolts in California with a 6000 US$ discount. This is even worse than...

Original seats in Model S were bad. They had no side support and seat heaters were even worse, which were heating only at certain seat spots and not evenly over the surface of the seat. Meanwhile, leather seats in my Ampera are great. Great side support and evenly distributed heating.

    Chevy Bolt First Impressions

No, in Europe, the EVSE, that comes with the car, already works at 230V and is switchable (at least Amepera/Volt1) between 6 and 10 Amps. I use it in my garage 24/7 for my Ampera and I have in the car another mobile EVSE, which can switch between 10 and 16A @ 230V. Our outlets already support...

If I remember correctly, US Volts1 came with Goodyear 93's and had some sidewall blowouts - at least I read some reports on gm-volt forum - and were upgraded to 94s. In Europe, Ampera initially came with Michelin Energy Saver tires rated as 94 and had no sidewall blowouts.

New Volt vs Old Volt Experience

New Volt vs Old Volt Experience

I have a 2012 Ampera and it handles very well in a snow. Every November, I put winter tires on (Continental WinterContact TS830P XL 205/60/16) because we do many kilometers and safety is first. I have winter tires on a separate set of black alu rims, because summer tires are 215/55/17 and...
