Tesla owner who falsely claimed car was in autopilot before Melbourne crash pleads guilty

Even if it was true that the car was in autopilot, that only raises questions like "why did you think it was safe to pass a tram in autopilot?" and "where you paying attention to the road?". It is still dangerous driving in either case. Particularly as we don't have anything like Full Self...

Pick up my Model 3 on Friday ... Looking forward to interacting with these clowns (not)

I have personally never experienced any of these issues. But demand for shopping center chargers - particularly free ones - is high, and typically there are few chargers. The chances of being able to get one is low. ...and yes, whenever I have checked there are always EVs plugged in.

    3G Phase Out

https://www.tesla.com/en_AU/order/download-order-agreement?redirect=no&country=AU&model_code=m3 I think this version was 2023. Apologies, there seems to be some weird characters in that copy and paste. This has caused some apparent spelling mistakes. Look at the original. If I look at the...

    3G Phase Out

Depends if you have wifi configured and in range from garage or not. I imagine most people with 3G only probably will have wifi configured, especially after 3G stops working.

    3G Phase Out

But Tesla misses out on being able to record data from your car. Is that data worth the cost of a 4G modem... Perhaps not, unless there are a significant number of 3G only cars. I am a little bit surprised that Tesla aren't contacting owners of 3G only cars and encouraging them to upgrade at...

    3G Phase Out

I believe it is possible just to upgrade the modem. But as others have recommended might be best to upgrade to MCU2 at the same time... Even more so if you still have an older 8GB eMMC that was prone to fail (although hopefully these have all been replaced by now under the 2021 recall).

    Model 3 Highland live now

Maybe as more people start getting stalk-less cars, they can start addressing these fears with their own experiences. Which may or may not address the issues. I know that indicators not on stalks receives a lot of discussion. But what happens when you are driving at night, and the car is on...

    Model 3 Highland live now

Everyone I have spoken to says that they would not consider purchasing a Tesla due to the removal of the stalks. Which is a shame, as Tesla do have other good features, e.g. reliable charging network. Last I heard that is still mostly Tesla only in Australia.

    Model-Y Comprehensive Insurance Recommendation

I got a quote to insure my 2016 Model S for $5,673.21 from RACV. And I got quotes for >$7k. $4k is a bargain... Previously I choose a budget insurance policy (ING) and really regretted this when making an insurance claim, they lied about Tesla authorised repairers being on their official...

Tesla app unable to wake car

Sometimes it seems to be excessively slow to wake the car, but it works eventually. At least most of the time. But perhaps not until after I have given up waiting and just walk to the car. Would really like that too. Help answer "Am I really the only one to have this particular problem? Are...

Airbag warning light 2016 model S

They are now hinting that the Passive Safety Restraint Module might need to be replaced (PSRCM) $826 + GST. To be fair, I think this cost estimate is just guess work at this stage, they still need to see the car (again). But starting to think that maybe their repair process is "lets replace...

Airbag warning light 2016 model S

I think the passenger side airbag was recalled and replaced. At least that is what the invoice says. But not really clear which air bag the alert is for, when they replaced the SCCM they seemed to indicate the problem was the steering wheel airbag.

Airbag warning light 2016 model S

I have had problems with the airbag warning light coming on for a while now. Currently seems to come on if driving directly into the sun. After changing direction the warning disappears. The car has been in service two times to fix the problem. The first time they replaced for SCCM - Steering...

Yes, that surprised me too. But I guess car is 7 years old now.
  19. B

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

Tesla said that there was debris in the plug, which my have been the reason for the tip missing, and recommended that the charge port on the car be replaced. At just over $800. But small in comparison, the brake pads need replacing and and tires need replacing also.

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

I am somewhat wondering about that middle pin on the car port also. Its shape is fine, but in the photo has a distinct circular pattern that none of the other pins do. Maybe it is degrading in the same way.
  21. B

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

Yes, to me, both the plug and the charging port looked damaged. To me, the pin on the port looks like it is missing the tip. Maybe this combined with the charger at Knox being slightly out of alignment, means the socket is banging into the flat part of the pin, which really shouldn't be a flat...

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

I tried both charging cables at Knox, and both had the same problem. But other charging cables, e.g. at Home, at Eastland, Ringwood, Tesla service, etc seem to be fine.
  23. B

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

Possibly my use of terminology is incorrect. I was using plug to refer to the thing that goes into the car, and socket for the thing on car. What should I call each thing? I have attached photos of the thing on my car. To me, it looks like the tip of a pin is missing. Huh? But nothing that...

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

We did have to replace our wall charger recently, because one of the pins on the plug was busted (outer plastic vanished and inner contact surface vanished leaving only the non-springy metal part), which resulted in a dodgy connection. We have no idea why/when this happened, or where the missing...

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

Nothing that looks obvious to me. Maybe should retry sometime, and spend a bit longer trying to work out what is going on. It is an older (2016) Model S, but can't see why that should matter.
  26. B

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

Yes, that one. Odd, couldn't find it before. Oh wait, I probably set my filters incorrectly. But yes, plug didn't seem to go in. Maybe needed more force?

Knox City aka Westfield Knox EV charger - Melbourne

Tried to use this charger today (not on plugshare), but it wouldn't plug in. Plug seemed to hit something. Same for both plugs. Took a photo of the plug, it looks like a standard type 2 plug. Think I have seen Teslas charging here in the past, but both spots were empty this time (maybe an...

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity in Victoria?

Not sure, did you mean you want more information on the Tesla API? Is unofficial, but is what the official app uses. See Tesla API - Tesla API - I think I saw other references also. Getting the initial token can be a pain, since Tesla locked this down. This use to work, but last I tried it...

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity in Victoria?

This is entirely my own custom code, written in Rust, that talks to the Amber API to get the prices, Tesla API to start and stop charging, and Teslamate (via MQTT) to get current car status (without resorting to constant polling which would keep the car awake). If you don't mind getting your...

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity in Victoria?

I have Amber and a Tesla and am really happy with both. There are some challenges charging at the optimal price though. Sometimes best time is at night, sometimes best time during the day. In the second case, don't want to rely on charging a really low battery during the day when car is going...

Roadside Assist when >80km from Tesla S.C.

See https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/downloads/roadside-assistance-policy-en.pdf There are big limitations for Tesla road side assistance. e.g. towing only available for warrantable issue and not for flat battery (either low voltage or high voltage battery). So don't rely on it if car...

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

According to this article, the ZLEV tax is going up 1st July. But I don't see anything official confirming this. Victoria's electric-car road-user charges to increase from 1 July 2023

    Extended Warranty (Australia)

Tesla refused to replace my MS door handles under warranty, even when I complained and said they were legally required under the ACL. Because the problems were due to known manufacturing defects IMHO. They instead offered a discount (=$493 total to fix two doors) on replacing the door handles...

    evse chargers questions

When I last got the charger replaced - I suspect V2 charger - not sure now when that was - might be November 2018 (but not 100% sure of this), I heard rumours that there was a known problem with the chargers that had been fixed. Supposedly my new charger had the problem fixed, but not 100% sure...

    evse chargers questions

Hello, My EVSE is showing signs yet again of faulty cable or connector, meaning that the car will refuse to charge, saying that there is no power available. At least that is the most likely explanation. This seems to a re-occurring problem for me. Although previously Tesla would replace it...

    service center covered dash cam

Like I said, no idea how to contact them.

    service center covered dash cam

No disagreement here. But (a) they could have disconnected the power (and made it obvious as well as stopping audio recording also) and (b) told me what they had done, and (c) put it back the way they found it when they finished.
  41. B

    service center covered dash cam

Yes, correct, this is an add-on camera. Tesla is an older one, not sure it has built in recording (but haven't exactly investigated since upgrading the MCU...). Reason for blaming Tesla, is that the only other alternatives are myself and Mum. Which are both incredibly unlikely. I would like to...

    service center covered dash cam

Several months after my Tesla had been in service, I went to look at dash cam footage of a recent incident, only to find that there was tape on the dash cam blocking its view. On previous visits to the service center, they can disconnect the power from the dash cam. So I checked that, and it...

Had somebody point out to me that while taxes on petrol have been reduced, taxes on EV usage are going up. Huh?

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

Err, how are you going to know what distance I traveled after 1st July? I could have taken a photo of the odometer on 1st July, but you never asked me to do, and I didn't know this would be a thing, so so I didn't. I have taken a photo today, just to be safe, but it is now the 5th. Wondering if...

Make sure the service centre CLOSES your ticket.

I think I would be trying to contact Tesla to let them know that this was an issue. So they have the opportunity to make changes to prevent a repeat should they desire to do so. Yes, I know, not always easy to contact them these days :-(

    Tesla S loud at night

Yikes. Your case sounds even worse then my case. Sounds like Tesla's fault. I would have hoped that the process of transferring ownership would reset all tokens. In my case, no previous owners, so that unlikely to be in issue. I am using teslamate, would be rather surprised if it is doing...

    Tesla S loud at night

Hello, I have been getting complaints from family members that my car is loud at night. With complaints that it prevents people from sleeping, it will upset the neighbors, it will be the end of the world, etc. I believe this might be the air conditioning. I also believe the time of the noise...

MCU2 Upgrde and no AM or FM radio

Not quite. It says "Tesla offers an additional Radio Upgrade, including the installation of a compatible radio tuner and antennas, that allows customers to *retain* access to FM radio and DAB radio". Highlighting on the word "retain" added by me. The wording was the same when I got my upgrade...
