What is included in a Founder's Series reservation?

For people who are worried about the back seats: have you seen those already? Storage space is the only real use. Just as with any 2+2 seater, the back seats are only useful if you have small children without legs...

    0 to 60 time now 2.1 seconds

Performance figures on the Tesla website are always stated in the "motortrend spec", which is 0-60mph (0-96kph) and with the 1' rollout. Adding those times will increase the true 0-100kph time with about 0.35s

Musk Offer’s New Details on Roadster’s SpaceX Package

Why would Elon put thrusters on the Roadster? Because he can. That's the only reason. There is no other car in the world that has this. That is reason enough. The Roadster is a showcase car.

When do you expect the first deliveries of the 2020 Roadster?

The Roadster is like a side project to Tesla. Not a lot of people will be working on that. And most likely, every Roadster will be hand built. But given Tesla's history with deadlines, I'm expecting the first deliveries in 2021 for the US and 2022 for the rest of the world, with the referral...

How about Tesla selling the Roadster for a symbolic Euro or Dollar? Technically, you still bought the car then and did not get it for free :p

    Founders Reservations

It all depends on how exactly Tesla does the paperwork on those free cars. If fully taxable as personal income, then in Belgium that means ending up in the 52% tak bracket and a free Roadster will set me back €150k (as that's what it's likely going to cost over here). I hope there is some legal...

    Founders Reservations

They are now already over 100 free ones. However, it seems that you may have to declare them in your taxes (sources Ben Sullins and Bjorn Nyland), so that could become a very expensive "free" car. Many may not be able to afford it then... By the way, it's limited to 2 Roadsters per person

Musk Suggests 2020 Roadster Will Levitate With SpaceX Parts

I actually tweeted Elon the same question about accelerating the air underneath the car to increase the Venturi effect and increase grip. You wouldn't want to be driving behind the car when active, I guess. Any rocks and pebbles will be shot straight into the car behind you

Musk Suggests 2020 Roadster Will Levitate With SpaceX Parts

Hovering was also mentioned from the start, when he said something like "Not saying it will fly, but maybe short hops". Maybe have speculated about the hovering capabilities. Now, he he can make that a useful function as well, that would be awesome. Otherwise, it's just an extremely expensive...

Can a crippled autopilot still avoid a €300.000 collision in v9.0? - Testing the Tesla

Taking testing of Tesla's autopilot to the limits with disabling the sensors and seeing what it still can do. Auto lane change now uses (predominantly) the cameras instead of the ultrasonics. Impressed by the results and I believe this is now a good implementation to keep it as much as possible...

Testing The Tesla - Update 2018.48.1 has some minor UI changes and a big surprise

Am I actually responsible for making a change to the #Tesla software in update 2018.48.1? If that would be true, that would be awesome and that was also the initial setup of my Youtube channel: to help improve the product! I'm not really taking credit for this, but like to think that at least I...

    Tire price for 2020 roadster?

    Tire price for 2020 roadster?

Got this from several documentaries and car reporting websites. One of them quotes "Imagine the engineering that went into the tyres alone? Tire price for 2020 roadster?

The tires are experiencing over 3000 Gs at 250mph. That takes some special engineering to keep them from disintegrating. I do not expect the car to reach that top speed with its standard tires it's driving around now. But we'll see. I just hope Tesla also realises that a sports car, super car...

My personal top 10 bugs and quirks in v9.0 (2018.42.2)

Usually, I'm quite positive about Tesla and the way we get problems resolved and updates that make our cars better over time. Tesla remotely fixes my car while on a road trip

V9 has a big problem with camera alignment it seems. This causes the auto lane change to be disabled. I'm guessing it's the same issue as with the original AP2 roll out, where I had to go 4 times to service center to re-align the cameras. Right now they were able to remotely reset the entire AP...

    Ludicrous mode vs sport mode

There is no efficiency change by itself. But the same application of the go-pedal yields different results, resulting in different consumption. AutoPilot 1 vs AutoPilot 2.0: why AP1 is still better

AutoPilot 1 vs AutoPilot 2.0: why AP1 is still better

Nav on AP will definitely be useful, especially when having to transfer between highways on long trips. Sometimes the navigation is hard to follow, when exits are complex or very close together. HW3 will be required for FSD, but as Elon mentioned, the only difference is the processing power...

Testing the Tesla: official release (2018.42.2) on Belgian roads

As usual, I've taken the Tesla for a spin on my test route to see where we got some improvements. Compared to the unofficial release I tested last week, there are some minor improvements. But in general, I really love the progress V9 brings us!

AutoPilot 1 vs AutoPilot 2.0: why AP1 is still better

It's quite simple now. V9 which has just been released has surpassed AP1 greatly. And it will continue to improve. AP1 is stagnated now and won't get much improvement anymore, if at all. So, if AP is important for you, definitely go for AP2 now!

Tesla v9.0 interface (2018.39.7) also has a new Easter Egg

Tesla v9.0 interface (2018.39.7) also has a new Easter Egg

I personally would have loved to keep the next gen seats. They were the best and still are. Unfortunately, Tesla made the stupid decision to package that with the automated lift gate and sales was not able to separate the two, so I was stuck with those ventilated seats :-(

Tesla v9.0 interface (2018.39.7) also has a new Easter Egg

If you have ventilated seats, then you get that option. However, in my 2017 car, the ventilated seats do diddly squat. That's why they removed them, together with the fact that the seat quality was really bad as the leather wrinkled and tore. Now they are back, but have not been able to verify...

Tesla v9.0 interface (2018.39.7) also has a new Easter Egg

Of course, we need to do the mandatory V9.0 interface review as well. A lot has changed and even though I was afraid it would not be good, it is actually a quite logical makeover. Camera at the bottom of the screen should be resolved in a next release, Elon promised. Please forgive the static...

Update 2018.39.7 (V9) on Belgian roads: it finally nails the dreaded S-curve!

The neural net has been expanded with a lot more information and needs to continuously be trained to refine it further. This is to be expected when you rewrite stuff. 4-CH dashcam setup + coverage of footage around the car

Power is drawn from the OBD port. For some reason, European cars do not have that connector behind the microphone grill. I had it in my early P85D, but it did only deliver 3V and not 12V. Also, OBD is fused separately, so there is not interference with any other system on the car when you just...

Update 2018.39.7 (V9) on Belgian roads: it finally nails the dreaded S-curve!

Today I had the opportunity to test the unofficial version of V9 (remember, us non-US folks do not seem to have the right to get the software update officially yet :-( ) Thanks to the new neural net that also take all 8 cameras into account, the improvement we're seeing is unlike any other. Even...

4-CH dashcam setup + coverage of footage around the car

Yes they film 24/7, but only record to disk when movement or impact is detected. Since the devices take max 4W per set, this can last for up to a year, if that would be the only power drain. ;) For comparison, the AP2 computer alone uses 250W. So you don't even notice it in your consumption.

Road trip video: taking the Tesla dashcam business international

While I was somewhat worried about Tesla's own dashcam feature, when it turned out to be pretty lame in feature-richness (but good video quality), and the fact that the feature is only for HW2.5+ cars :-(, I don't see the dashcam business collapsing anytime soon :). Proof of that was when a...

Tesla called me to ask if I wanted to order new key fobs

Any metallic box basically does the trick. But I also had the discussion whether you'd want Mickeysoft to charge for every security patch they release. Update 2018.34.1 introduces a new safety warning

While this update has virtually no differences with 2018.32.4 (which introduced the PIN to drive feature), the latest version has introduced a new safety feature that beeps at you when you use AP on intersections that it's not comfortable handling. And that's a good thing! Now, before I get the...
