    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Having had EAP free for a month this year on my Model 3, I wouldn't get excited about it. Most features were either hilariously bad or of little use.

    Sydney to Darwin road trip

Enjoying your videos. As a newly minted Aussie (ex-Brit), it amazes me the kilometres Aussies drive on road trips without batting an eyelid. Good luck with the rest of your trip!

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I am happy to do that, but giving them credit in one area, doesn’t excuse their failings in others. As others have said, the basic infotainment is a UI mess, the display lacks good contrast, the speedo is too small. While I have worked in the software industry my whole life, and admit to being...

Chargefox network bought out by motoring clubs

I hear they are deploying Kempower chargers in the future, which from Bjorn’s videos are modular, more sophisticated and reliable compared with the Tritium ones.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

My model 3 (2022.12.2) identified a stop sign as a 30 speed limit today. Unsure why as they appear to be nothing alike.

Has Gen 3 Charger become smarter?

Search for ChargeHQ on Facebook - that’s the official support group. It’s in beta at the moment, so you need to ask to be added to the service. The web site and FAQ are here - Charge HQ - EV Smart Charging App .

Has Gen 3 Charger become smarter?

I’ve been using Charge HQ for a few months, and it does exactly what it says. The Tesla charger, however is not part of any smarts. I track my Fronius inverter generation and home consumption using a cloud system called Solar Analytics. Charge HQ reads this data and uses the Tesla API to control...

Colour for touching up model 3 rims (19s)?

I finally kerbed a rim :( Does anyone know what colour touch-up pen that’s available in Australia matches? It’s for the 19” LR, 2021 mic.

    Tesla Model 3 Paint protection

I got a package with Tint Haus - ceramic tint, ceramic coating, front ppf. They came across as thoroughly professional, were easy to deal with, and I am pleased with the end result. Their pricing seems in line with other places with their reputation. It took a couple of days for them to do.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I think someone needs to tell Tesla that Agile development doesn’t mean pushing out poorly tested software to customers!

SR+ impressions after the first 3000kms

We did a similar trip (Blue mountains to Canberra) fairly often before COVID, and will soon do it for the first time in the model 3. Looking forward to using some of my free charging kms before they run out, at Goulburn. The place we normally stay (Realm hotel) has Tesla destination charging...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Useless, and am turning it back off. As you say, it’s counter-intuitive, and fights using the mirrors. A blind-spot light on the wing mirror would be more useful. I get that we are “getting something for nothing”, but I also think just because something can be done is not always a good reason...

Model 3 Build Quality - What's your experience?

My September delivery M3 LR seems fine. I am quite fussy about these things, and had heard all the horror stories, so I did a full inspection when I got home. I got front ppf and ceramic coat, plus front and rear mud guards to protect from stone chips. This will be a long term keeper, so I...

Model 3 Charging and Other Queries

It’s dull on the 3 also. I can’t understand why they don’t put brighter leds in at the factory. I replaced those with brighter ones, too.
  15. P

Model 3 Charging and Other Queries

I ended up getting mud flaps to stop stones getting chucked up against the sills, etc.

You can split a single ssd between tesla cam and music, which is what I have done.

Model 3 Charging and Other Queries

Welcome! The 2tb T7 is overkill for sentry cam. The 512GB T5 will be more than you will ever need and save you some money. I went for the Suntek Ultra ppf frontal, 10H ceramic coating and ceramic tint 35% on side windows and rear for $3200. I’m too old for the gangsta look, and 35% all round...

Process for getting 3rd party chargers included in Tesla route planner?

I emailed all the networks to ask them about this. I won’t say who replied, to protect them, but one has told me they have been trying for 18 months to get this done with Tesla, but Tesla seem to have deprioritised it and they can’t make headway.

Process for getting 3rd party chargers included in Tesla route planner?

I wondered if anyone knew the process for getting 3rd party charging networks (Evie, Chargefox, etc.) included in the Tesla route planner? I realise there’s no way for a Tesla owner to do this, but I see there are some in other countries, so there must be a way to get Tesla to include them.

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

Also, they are using more modern manufacturing techniques in the Berlin factory, and have got the build time down to 10 hours.

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

It’s worth pointing out that Mazda are a relatively low volume car manufacturer, and don’t have the money to invest in R & D that most others do. Their BEV future exists with a lot of other small Japanese manufacturers - in partnership with Toyota. When Toyota eventually bring BEV models to the...

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

I don’t think it’s fair to ding Mazda for the suicide doors - I had an RX-8 and the suicide doors were great for getting kids/car seats in and out. Now, the BEV part, ding away.

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

I think you both have good points. We need to lower the upfront costs of buying evs, so the RUC makes sense, but I think we need to tackle this as a nation, not state-by-state, and use consistent technology to provide a solution. The way Victoria has done this, charging Victorians for driving on...

Best way to clean off black seats and the faux leather?

I have been there! If it smells, wipe down with white vinegar on a cloth, then when dry, sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the area and leave overnight. Vacuum up and wipe down again with white vinegar. No more smell.

    Rear window tint...ok??

I’ve just booked mine in with a place that has done over 100 Teslas. They told me it was a glass issue that only affected early Teslas, but to go for the more expensive ceramic option (as opposed to carbon) as it reflects rather than absorbs heat, reducing any risk. I decided to go for 35% all...

    New owner, styling thoughts?

I like the 18” wheels better than the 19” on my LR. May need to get them powder coated a darker colour in the future…

Same here. I have had mine a week, and still sat on that version. Yes, I have tried rebooting it 😀

One flaw with the Tesla navigation is that it only has Tesla chargers. It really needs other DC chargers in its database to be truly useful.

To those taking delivery in Sydney >= September 1

I’m still waiting for mine to update, I’m not sure how long it can take? I’ve been looking at various apps as I am interested in the data. Although I have set up TeslaMate in docker, Teslafi has grown on me, and there is no setup to do. I would like to use my Apple Watch as a key, etc., so...

Mine calibrated after about 30km, but the roads had clear lane markings.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I picked up my Tesla last Wednesday, and it has 2021.3.105. How long do new cars tend to sit on their delivered version (I have selected advanced and it’s on wifi)?

    Jolt EV charging network

I figure you are on one end of the curve in your needs, and that these are aimed at apartment dwellers without their own chargers, who can top up while doing a bit of shopping or having lunch. Sydney clearly wants to make lower cost charging ubiquitous, so people can top up as they go about...

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

There is inefficiency everywhere, it isn’t unique to government. But, yes, I agree efficiency with public money should always be a priority. I would argue the #1 goal should be delivering good outcomes. I have seen optimisation/efficiency lead to some pretty poor outcomes in many places.

To those taking delivery in Sydney >= September 1

Finally, after admiring Teslas for years, I picked up my ‘mid-life crisis’ present from my wife of a red Model 3 LR. The pickup was easy from Chatswood. After hearing so many horror stories about build quality, I couldn’t find a thing wrong with it. The paint was good, shut lines were even and...

    Supercharger - Blaxland, NSW

I’m still on for the 15th September. I opted for Chatswood as my delivery centre - not sure why, as it’s a longer journey, but at least I can do some work on the train. I need another RMT tag, but apart from that, I’m all ready. Tesla charger is installed, and my home office has a corner...

To those taking delivery in Sydney >= September 1

I’m booked in for 10am 15th September at Chatswood. It’s going to be a long 2 weeks! I‘m hoping autopilot calibrates on my drive home to the lower Blue Mountains, otherwise I’ll be driving in a 5km circle once I get home. Must get a new tag.

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

I can see a place for ships, trucks, trains, where you need maximum uptime of the asset, but not for cars, where it isn’t cost effective.

    Supercharger - Blaxland, NSW

I will keep an eye out for you! I have seen talk of a Blue Mountains meetup at Wentworth Falls when things improve. Apparently the owner of a good pie and coffee shop is a Tesla owner and has a big enough car park.

NSW’s plans for EVs to 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2050

Not yet, Tesla have SMS’d me to pay, but not uploaded an invoice yet. Because I asked for delivery to coincide with the rebates, I am expecting it soon. They give expected delivery 1st September to 14th September.

NSW’s plans for EVs to 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2050

Yes, 1st September for the tax invoice, it’s worth $3k stamp duty! At least the accessories will give me something to do, since I will only be able to drive it in a 5km radius. My garage is turning into a bit of a Tesla cave 😀

NSW’s plans for EVs to 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2050

No point in me delaying beyond 1st September, as I’ve bought so many accessories that I have to go through with the purchase :)

    Model 3 headlights adjustable?

Headlamp aim is definitely part of the UK MOT, having lived there for over 40 years, I had to have it adjusted several times.
