    Model 3 Software Update 2018.42.x

Sweet. So in the UI you enable it via the "Regen: Blackout" setting.

Old regen was 0.2g's. Anyone have data on the new?

    P3D+ 250 mile range with non-aggressive driving

Being I'm the original poster, I'm guessing I'm "the guy". My average speed was no where close to 80. I said limit+5. That's 30 in a 25, 40 in a 35, etc. Sure, there were times I hit 80, but overall this was a *very* average drive. In any case, this topic wasn't even about the reduced range, it...

    severe range anxiety

20ish miles trying to find supercharger in place I hadn't been. Really a non-issue though, way more than enough room for error. Tesla does a decent job at protecting us from dumb mistakes. When was the last time you saw an ICE vehicle tell you to navigate to X location due to lack of range to...

    P3D+ 250 mile range with non-aggressive driving

The issue has nothing to do with EPA rating. Tesla knows your actual usage, it knows where you're going, and routes you to various superchargers based on EPA data instead of the actual data it knows. It's an opportunity for improvement in future software updates.

    P3D+ 250 mile range with non-aggressive driving

Good call out. Yes I take full advantage of regen. I use virtually zero breaking. Those big beautiful breaks just sit there lookin pretty.

    P3D+ 250 mile range with non-aggressive driving

Sure heat plays a small factor. As well as it being in performance mode instead of chill, but very doubtful it'd matter much as it was a smooth ride. Also I did go 65-70 in 65 limit zones. Like I said, limit+5. Never was I speeding. In fact I was being passed by a ton of vehicles. Anyone...

    P3D+ 250 mile range with non-aggressive driving

Nor was my average anywhere close to that. I said limit+5 (plenty of 35s etc), which is super typical real-world driving. Anyway, my post was only to educate and show there are still improvements to be made in the estimations. I fully expect that I will never hit 310 mile range under any...

    P3D+ 250 mile range with non-aggressive driving

Plenty of reviews on this car, but not a ton of coverage on P3D and especially for the P3D+ (namely 20" 4S wheels), so thought it might be helpful for those undecided. After an 800-mile trip from AZ to CA and back in 2 days, using 99% autopilot @ limit+5mph (65/70-75/80), I averaged 300...

Will staggered wheels and stickier tires up 0-60?

Currently data shows no straight line delta with staggered, grip just isn't the limit due to the linear performance. However there is untapped power, so if that is ever unlocked in the future we could see potential for it. I wouldn't bother right now, the square 4S setup is soo good. I'd be...

Thinking about upgrading to Performance. Change my mind.

You'll be happy either way, but at least autopilot can be added later if you go with 3P. I'd only go AWD+Autopilot if you do a ton heavy traffic commuting. I've only had it one day, but the P+ has been a blast. My wife didn't want to like the car (bitter over cost heh), but she changed her tune...

Model 3 performance as a cop car?

Not sure it's needed, but not a bad idea. Theoretically could net $20K in savings over 5 yrs due to gas/maintenance, which could bring it more inline with expectations of sub-50K. Overkill, for sure. But I'm all for giving our officers better tools.
  13. K

    PM3 Order

Very likely. Delivery rate is already through the roof and the vast majority of newly registered VIN's in the last month are all AWD (includes P's). Tesla appears to finally be hitting their (target) numbers.
  14. K

    50k miles yr

More of a Tesla question than a Model 3 Q, since obviously there isn't enough history to go on. That's too bad you didn't order before August 1st, you could have had an excuse to pony up the 15K for Performance which would have given you free unlimited supercharging for life... Could have...

    Dragy GPS Times

I'm a little surprised you didn't see improvement with the wider backs. I'd be very curious to see this setup on 1/4 mile as that has been where the P seems lacking (P and AWD are only 1s diff on 1/4, which shouldn't be the case).

    T Sportline 19s on a P3D+ rattling like crazy

You're too quick to forgive rushing to market. This is a case of releasing a product w/o adequate testing. And in a critical component of a vehicle, which could have caused serious damage, or worse. Not to mention, you're experimenting with an expensive machine. IMO the author is being...

The regret will melt away once you get your car.
  18. K

    Dragy GPS Times

I agree on the sampling rate, but you factually know the acceleration (0-60 in ~3.3s), then clearly the accelerometer is providing misleading data if that is how they are deriving force. I also don't like that they only track force in tenths, which hides important resolution. You can absolutely...
  19. K

    Dragy GPS Times

Interesting, good catch. Acceleration shows to be incredibly linear, yet force is not, so there is certainly something fishy going on there. We should certainly be seeing far more peaks at or above the 1g mark based on this linear acceleration. I always assumed that the force was being...

    Buying experience from hell

Fair point, but still devoid from reality if he thinks a delay (which resulted in him not receiving a dud) is a "Buying experience from hell". Unfortunate, sure, but a little perspective here.

Yep, all you have to do is look at one of the many VIN spreadsheets to see they're in blocks.

    The Performance Upgrade Package Question

Agreed, P+ is just for the extra bells and whistles "out of the box". Nothing more, nothing less. Happily paid for the P+, but I don't expect anything beyond what's included in hardware. Track will probably be exclusive to 3P, but not P+.

Anxiously waiting an AWD review / videos

Thanks for the info! Couple tips to help: 1) Mash the pedal to avoid being throttled, 2) Record charge at time of run (90%+ matters a great deal in Tesla's). I'd surprised if you couldn't at least hit the 4.5 mark.

Autopilot - Newbie thoughts and observations

Specifically, chill locks acceleration to .5 g's. Which doesn't do much on RWD that peaks around .6 anyway.

Performance Upgrade Package and Ludicrous Mode

I'm very doubtful the upgrade package will net any software unlocks whatsoever, including track mode.
  28. K

Anyone else waiting on Track Mode to decide P3D- or P3D+?

It is lame to announce a feature and not inform buyers of these details. Vagueness seems to be a Tesla trait for reasons I cannot understand. Perhaps the enjoy customers speculating endlessly on forums instead of transparency. There are hundreds of threads with unnecessary speculation... Good...

Agreed, they have more up their sleeves. I'd bet on it.

Should I add FSD to my existing order?

FSD is a poor investment. The only semi logical reason for paying now is that you're investing in Tesla's future, which is the only reason I paid it. They will deliver new driver assisted features in the next year, and yes some or all will be exclusive to "FSD". But full level 4 won't likely be...

    RWD vs P3D drag race

From all the data I've seen, I believe the reason for this is that 3P has insufficient grip 0-60, even with the P+ package. S/X are heavier and have greater traction as a result even with comparable tires. The downside of the P+ package is it is heavier rotational mass with the rims/tires, which...

    Red - paint quality issues

No, VIN's are NOT sequential, never have been. They are given out in blocks and staggered. There are brand new assigned VIN's today that are anywhere from the 30's to 70's, with a new block of 80's just recently allocated. All that matters is creation date.

Group Buy Poll for Mono-Block Forged Alloy Wheels by Titan

That'd be a huge cost, but honestly in the 60-80K range, another $6K for 2-3 tenths 0-60 it could be a reasonable deal considering the level of benefits at that level of performance. It should make a huge diff for quarter mile, as that is where the 3P seems to finally be power limited.

    Model 3 Web Browser

I'm not talking about just me. I don't want anyone on the road to have one more excuse to not pay attention to the road. Once Tesla's are fully autonomous, then and only then can we talk.

    Track mode for AWD?

Coming from someone that paid for P+, I'm doubtful they're going to restrict a software only feature to those that paid for an unrelated feature. As far as I'm concerned, give it to whomever wants to torment their car. At most they might restrict to P model due to warranty/testing of drive units.

    The Performance Upgrade Package Question

All of the benefits of upgrade are cheaper, and potentially better, aftermarket. That coming from someone that will gladly pay for the upgrade. I'd rather the semi small savings go to saving me the time and hassle of going aftermarket. Additionally this allows me to roll the upgrade into my...

    Q2 earnings call discussion

Concerned about the new CPU coming next year. Pay the money for FSD then still have to pay for this later. Unconfirmed, but very doubtful Tesla will pick up the bill for that upgrade.

    Dual Motor Performance 0-60 times

That's what I meant, to test with inclines. Go uphill to increase downward force. Once you start slowing down you'll have a better idea of potential with increased grip.
  40. K

    Dual Motor Performance 0-60 times

This is really interesting data. The more I see, the more confident I am that M3P is over-powered by a significant margin. In other words, it is greatly constrained by grip. Data from uphill tests, and tests with 3 passengers, all have proven to be equal or better results. Comes down to needing...

Low rolling resistance tires for 20" aftermarket wheels

I don't qualify as an expert, but you probably cannot go wrong with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, same as provided by the performance package upgrade. Should be a nice balance between performance and real-world usage (tread ware, etc).

Poll: Fastest stock setup 0-60 -- Aeros or 20" Sport?

    They should have named things: * 3S - short/standard range * 3L - long range * 3A - AWD * 3P - performance * 3P+ - performance plus (fancy pants upgrade)
  43. K

Poll: Fastest stock setup 0-60 -- Aeros or 20" Sport?

If true, this is very interesting data. Lowest accurate stock aero I've seen is 3.53s. I want to believe, but I don't know how accurate the results really are. It would help validate an earlier theory of mine that shows P3D is overpowered for its stock setup, and greatly lacks sufficient grip. I...

Poll: Fastest stock setup 0-60 -- Aeros or 20" Sport?

I'd like to learn more about this experience, and the correlation with stock upgrades offered by Tesla. Since this thread is about stock A vs stock B, I just want to make sure I'm understanding your point about your OEM experiences. Are you basically advising against stock aero+OEM-upgrades, or...

Poll: Fastest stock setup 0-60 -- Aeros or 20" Sport?

What I believe we're starting to see from early 0-60 data with aero is that it has far more power than the wheels can grip. Some tests uphill even preform same or better due to added grip provided by gravity. I don't expect the 20's to fully utilize the power either, only wider/sticky will do...

    P3D VIN!!!!

There is currently a ~50K range (20's to 70's) of VIN's being assigned to newly created vehicles. People need to ignore the number, and only reference the date.
  47. K

    Dual Motor Performance 0-60 times

Yes, unless the limiting factor is grip. More weight can help there. It *might* even explain why one of his up-hill results were better than semi-flat. We still don't know how much power in the M3P is going to waste due to lack of grip. In any case, these are great results for all-season tires...

You rock, thanks for posting! Seeing it pull .8 to .9 g's for the bulk of it was awesome. That's the real indicator of "feel". Would be cool to see the full reports on these runs to better understand the incline. Seems there was still a 2-3% grade? In any case, impressive.
